Servicing My Year Old BMW

Hi All,
I'm looking at getting my BMW serviced and was informed by friends to shop around as certain dealers had higher service rates. Has anyone experienced this? I live in the South east Melbourne suburb however a couple of dealers asked me to get my car in to get the quote.
Appreciate the feedback

a couple of dealers asked me to get my car in to get the quote.

For a 1 year old car?! That's a load of crap lol

    • Yes thought it was ridiculous . Was under the impression it was something new with European car dealerships :P

  • Huh? You need to take your car in to get a quote for a standard service? Or do you need specific non-warranty work done?

Either case, might be worth calling a dealer in Sydney for a comparison quote but should be similar'ish.

Also, consider an all-inclusive package: https://www.melbournebmw.com.au/our-services/service-inclusi…

    • Yes thought that was weird for a standard service. I'm finding it difficult to make time to schedule the service let alone take it in a for a quote

Mercedes have a service where they pick up your vehicle, service it and return it to your home. Worth asking if BMW offer the same.

  • Just call a dealer and ask them, "How much for just a *insert_km_here* service?". The only thing they may need is either your rego number or your VIN. They do not need to see your vehicle. This is a ploy to get you in there.

If you are doing it to get one dealership to match prices, don't waste your time, there is a high probability that they wont. A CBD dealer isn't going to match the prices of a dealer in Geelong or Mornington.

    • Thanks Pegaxs. I'm not looking at doing a price match , just looking for a competitive price. I was advised to stick to the same dealer till the warranty was up so wanted someone who is not looking at ripping me off.

Who is feeding you this s*#t?

      • you dont need to stick with the same dealer, but its best to have the car serviced by a BMW dealership.

As its before your first service, you are able to purchase what they call a Service Plan or BSI in BMW speak. This gives you fixed price servicing for 3, 4 or 5 years. I would suggest looking into this as it does provide some piece of mind for service costs for the next few years.

    • I always shop the MB dealers against each other for servicing out 2 MB's and it is truly amazing how "flexible" they can be with their pricing when told they are too expensive compared to "x" (also an authorised dealer).
Dealer "A" who we bought the E class from dropped their "B level" service from $900 to $675 to meet a price quoted by another dealer.
Still a ridiculous price to charge for what is basically an oil change.

      • "B level" service from $900 to $675

That's still a lot for some oil, a few filters and bulltish inspections.

    • The problem with the newer German cars (at least BMW) there is no specific service interval. A service is required when the on-board computer calculates that one is required. So there isn't really such a thing as "X km service"

OP, you may get more joy out of asking for a particular job, "oil and filter change" or whatever. You should be able to find a menu in your infotainment which outlines how long you have to go before you need each service item looked at, so suggest you start there.

But I would expect nothing more than an oil and filter change at 1 year. But this info might be good for you later years of ownership.

  • All premium brand dealers are going to try and gouge you
for the most they can, and perform exactly the same service(s)
How hard can it be to call a few BMW dealers and ask them for a quote for log book 1 year service?

    • The problem with the BMW's is you have to read and write the service info to the key.

      • Do you have to or is it just preferred?

        • Have to if you want a genuine BMW service history I suppose.

  • Don't pretty much all new Berners come with an includes service plan for the first 2 or 3 yeqrs.?

  • My new BMW came with 5 years servicing included

Seems you didn’t bargain / negotiate during purchase

My assumption you paid the asking price as well?

    • I was offered the service inclusive package for around $1500 when I purchased the car. At the time I was not aware that the charges were $600+ from the first standard service onwards .Not sure if this is something I can sign up for after my first service .Would probably work out cheaper!!

Plot twist: OP has Toyota, just came here to flush out all the euro owners. Ocker is in the lead with two Benz.

Pretty sure you’re about to find out why you shouldn’t have bought a beemer after your first service bill.

That realisation did dawn on me after I had to buy custom made seat covers :P

      • Why did you have to buy seat covers for a Beemer?

  • Try SouthernBM or BM Tech. I had them service my 130i for years until I sold it.

But yeah, you should have got the service pack.
