Don't Buy RAVPower Devices outside Amazon AU: No Warranty

Last week I bought a RAVPower 60W QC 3.0 iSmart 6 USB Port Wall Charger Charging from a post here which was way cheaper than Amazon, it works amazingly but when I tried to register the warranty I couldn't.

Their website only gives you the options:

  • Name
  • E-mail
  • Amazon Order

Yep, if you buy their devices outside Amazon, you are screwed.

I contacted the support and this was the email:

Thanks for your email.
Please know that we only sell products on our website and Amazon. We won't provide warranty for items purchased from eBay and any other unauthorized third party seller.
If you have any question about this product, please contact the seller on the eBay directly.
The order number is required to register for warranty. Unfortunately, there are no other ways to register the product.

I am sharing so in case you see an eBay post here, remember that you are going to have hard time to claim the warranty. Not a big deal for the charger, but a solar panel is easily above $100

Cheers

The usual answer is to call the ACCC.

    • It was just a few bucks so it isn't bothering much but I will give them hard time just for fun haha

Sharing so you guys don't buy the expensive ones outside Amazon to avoid headache :)

    • The OEM can refuse warranty if sold via unauthorized seller. ACCC can't do a thing because the OEM refuses.

    • Which again is the worst advice ever. What is an organisation that doesn't investigate complaints from an individual going to do? Nothing.

Fair Trade is the correct organisation.

  • I have always thought that unless the Ebay seller is the online version of store or authorised seller that you are on your own with warranty. You have to go back to the Ebay seller if faulty within a short period. Its just some person selling their stuff. Who knows when they purchased it and then listed it. IMO. I am doing the same with an Ebay item, and suspect that the manufacturer will give me the same reply. Tuff luck, no warranty as you didn't buy it from our store or dealer. Fair enough as that's why its going to be cheaper on Ebay. The purchase is no different from buying from FB or GT. You take your own risk.

Unauthorised re-sellers are not covered by manufacture warranty.

      • The eBay seller claims to be RAVPower authorized seller so as Dedbny said, if there is any problem I will have to contact them.
It was from the seller "sobredz" who gives 18 months warranty.

Not uncommon. I have come across products before that are not covered by manuf. warranty if you don't buy from an authorized reseller. Your "warranty" is with the reseller

  • You don't have to "register" for warranty. That rort was outlawed many many years ago.

You don't have to register, but it should make it easier to make a claim when you do have an issue as the manufacturer has a record of purchase.
