Overseas Transactions/Card Options

I need a credit card that isn't going to charge overseas transaction fees. I have had quite a few credit cards over the years to collect qantas points so hoping I won't get denied. Just cancelled anz. Only have amex and CBA left. Both charge fees. I want to use it for travel but also overseas purchases. I have read 28 degrees is good but is there any other option that has points attached or any other bonus? Or is the a debit card option?

A lot of the AMEX cards offer higher points earn on overseas spend which sometimes is actually higher worth than the fees on international transactions.

I've heard good things about 28 degrees, but I've never found the need to get a card just purely for overseas travel. I use my ING Visa Debit card and it seems to work well for me. I get better rates than any of the major banks and I've never had any issues with declined transactions.

  • ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Visa
Can also withdraw cash from atm with fees if you have a balance greater than your limit on your CC (make an extra payment)

ING credit card is good - there are a couple of hoops to jump through but it's worth it as there are no foreign transaction fees and they rebate any overseas ATM fee - in addition they give you 1% of your spend back each month, up to $30, if you pay on time. There is a fee but it's more than made up for with the rebate, if you put all bills etc on the card. I use it until the balance hits $3000 each month (max rebate $30) and then switch to my Amex for frequent flyer points for the rest of the month.

    • If you don’t care about the cash back but want the international fee free transactions ING also have a card that is annual fee free.

This is true. I signed up for the card during the $250 back promotion and the fee was $149 so was already $101 ahead. I tend to put all bills, groceries etc on the card so $30pm refund makes it worthwhile. Even without the original cash back I'm ahead over 12 months.

  • ANZ travel rewards, has an annual fee of $225 but you also get a free Virgin Australia return domestic flight and lounge passes. 1.5 points per dollar.

Bankwest also offer a few credit cards.

  • Thanks everyone
