KRK ROKIT RP5G3 5" Studio Monitors Pair LTD Edition (Stealth Black) $349, Presonus T8 $424 (Expired) Delivered @ StoreDJ

120

RP5G3 is cheaper than DJCITY’s Click Frenzy $358 Delivered sale price.
Currently $399 Delivered @ DJCITY.

Presonus T8 is usually $499, have rarely seen it cheaper. And at $424 it is currently cheaper than the Yamaha HS8S Studio subwoofer (which when on-sale is around $419).

Notes: a lot of people like KRK with their yellow woofer cone look, but IMO I think Stealth-Black looks better.
Presonus T8 is Class AB amplified & has RCA inputs, if that matters to you.
Also it may be worth trying to sign-up for newsletter (first-time only) to receive a $10 or $20 voucher.

  • Prefer a Krotch Rokit, but these are great little monitors.

  • Yes they are. Wish I could afford them, but can't justify the spend right now as I picked up two amps before Xmas and a new Yamaha HT RX yesterday, so my PreSonus Eris monitors will do for now as I'm pretty happy with them TBH.

    • I would argue Presonus Eris series monitors are better than KRK ROKIT series, especially for mixing work.

      • Have you been able to compare the XT and the High Def ranges? All seems a bit marketing-y to me.

        • Just looked it up. I have never owned or used those models.
It is common though for some companies to use the same components and slap a new design & name on products (Mackie).

      • Thanks for the opinion. Useful to know. I've been well pleased with mine. Superb value too given their price performance ratio.

  • Anyone recommend these as tv speakers?

    • Look at Edifier for better connectivity & ease of use (remote etc).

    • Not recommended. You have to turn them on/off yourself, and you'd have to feed them the audio line out from your TV, which in most cases is just about the lowest quality line out money can buy.

  • Ooo, I'm looking to downsize my Behringer 8" monitors to something smaller for my little home office, these look like a good alternative for everyday use. Any users care to review their opinion?

    • +1

I went for the jbl 305p mkii over these based on reviews if that means anything. A little more expensive though.

  • Already working on a set of Pioneer BS22 and C22s (4 bookshelf, one centre) that I'll do a tweeter and crossover mod for (yes, the famous one), and looking for a similarly thrifty sub for.

Small room home theatre setup, but surely an 8-inch sub wouldn't be enough? What's actually good value in this range ($150-$450)?

    • +1

One element of “value” I would consider is “quality”.
And especially in the budget range it’s important to consider quality as it will determine the length of the product’s life-span.

From my searches there are some 10-inch options out there in the sub $500 range, but they are a bit iffy (off-brands with questionable components / quality-control).

For a small room I would say an 8-inch would be enough, do some corner loading with its positioning and I think it will get low enough in frequency extension. Regarding out-right punch though you may have to look at 10-inch $500+ range to get that cinema equivalent bass-effect.
One ozbargainer in the past recommended the Wharfedale SW-150 @ $499 Delivered as good value for home theatre.

Also a Studio subwoofer like the one in this deal is tuned to be flat and may lack that “punch” you expect from home theatre.

      • Not necessarily looking for the cinematic effect, as modern cinema seems to have no concept of clarity beyond the intensity of the tinnitus if my recent trips to the movies has taught me anything. Would also be used for music anyway.

I'll keep looking through 8" subs then if it's stretching over $500. Cheers!

One good 8-inch is the Emotiva Basx S8 (Great reliable brand, great performance).
One issue it has is port-noise when using at high-volume (which can be sorted by plugging the port or using it at reasonable volume levels).

Currently $399 @ Klapp AV (I would recommend having it price-beat / matched as Klapp charges for delivery under $500 spend).
