Raid battles are in Dens of the wild area of Sword and Shield, they will have Red or Purple beams shooting into the sky to let you know they are active, or if you have NSO (Nintendo Switch Online) you can access other people’s Raid Dens by using the Ycomm (New version of GTS, PSS, Festival Plaza etc)

You can buy dive balls for 50W from the Watt traders in the wild area for - so this is the equivalent of 2.5 dens worth of watts. Still better than nothing though :)
is this really something to get excited about? post game money is nothing and really 10 balls are nothing to get fussed over…

They just don’t fill them out and I was confused with 0 and O sometimes

from the looks of it gamefreak intentionally blocks out one of the ones that can be confused with another (1/i, 0/o etc)
