Anyone Have a Decent Optus Plan + Phone Deal?

The Ozbargain Optus page is pretty dead. Looking for an iPhone plan in particular.

2 years ago (2017) Optus killed with their iPhone plans on November and December. 2019 I found each telco taking a step back except Telstra with their $0-199 upfront and 12 month $65 plan at JB Hifi.

If you want a good iPhone deal I think Boost 12 month prepaid SIM with a previous generation iPhone is a smart choice?

Its actually kinda crap. An iphone 7 plan now is more expensive than my iPhone 8 plan was 2 years ago ($59 inc handset)

Im looking to upgrade, but I feel like Optus wont be getting my money because of that…

        • Had a similar situation with my sife's $59 iphone 8 plan expiring recently. Talked to Optus and none of their iphone deals were appealing.

I ended up moving her to the Aldi mobile $25 per month 18GB plan ($34 per month saving, more data and better reception than Optus) and getting an iphone 11 from apple on the interest free deal. No contract and cheaper than anything Optus could offer on the 11.

The monthly saving will cover most of the phone repayment if paying over 2 years but I will look to pay it off much sooner.

      • Sadly we lost virgin,
Phone out of contract, now thinking of Boost.

  • I bought a 12month plan/sim 11 months ago for $120 (60gb). An OZB special. Went into a store a week ago to ask about renewal and the guy was quite adamant that it’s $180 now. I imagine I (and every other OZBer) will be migrating to boost. quite silly of Optus

    • go to the optus site and i think i saw a deal on the 12 month pre paid sim.

I am on a sim only plan $40 for 80gb. Optus had some good offers over a year ago now they are a rip off.

    • i was on the 40 for 80gb but the plan ended and went back to its original deal of 55 for 80gb.

ive seen the current sim only plans and they dont offer the free services of streaming free netflix, spotify and optus sports (not counted to your plan), now they only have apple music but i have an android handset and dont want to deal with apple and itunes. grrrrrr.

the only thing that looks fancy is the BYO sim plan, bulk up on data, not worried about overseas roaming and calling/ texts.

Managed to get a good deal on the optus chat the other day on two iphones.

2 iPhone 11s, one on a $45 build your own plan with 30GB, one on a $39 plan with 10GB (40GB to share)

20% off the $45 plan, 25% off the $39 plan, two iphones at $33/month each. Total Cost = $130.95/month.

I think the key was I was on an old and good sim-only plan, and I said that if they couldn't do a deal for about $130/month I would just buy phones outright and stay on my current plan. Took a while and had to be transferred around the chat teams a bit.

    • not bad at all for that.

    • I assume that's over 3 years?
