All that is missing is flared pants and a can of passiona for a trip to yesteryear.

      • Passiona in a can with 2 press in circles at the top, one big, one small. And purchased from an SSW supermarket.

  • Where is JB for oven cooking Chiko Rolls . Anyway tried his pure oven cooking method and they turned out like rocks .

Better defrost in microwave and put in preheated oven for around 10 mins for best nice tender eating result .

    • Try giving them a light coating of olive oil spray and reducing cooking time/temperature. I've done them in the oven before and actually prefer it.

      I use a phillips air fryer , 200 Degrees 13 Minutes works a charm

  • Checked pricehipster… should of been this week but hopefully next week… anyone else getting VERY low on 'The Spice Tailor' curry packs? I've got like 7 left instead of the 70 or so I buy on special.

    • 70…. Wow. Which is your fave? I have tried like 4 and only liked the butter chicken and goan. Didnt like the coconut and one of the dhaals unfortunately.

      • All the biryani's and curry. Butter chicken fan mainly but I was shocked by the coconut! LOVED IT! I wish I bought more!

  • Chiko roll was my fav snacks in my school days but now I find them overly salty

Yep and they make me fat too which they did not when I was in school.

Chips, tomato sauce, soy sauce and vinegar in a paper 'bucket of chips'. Enough liquid to make them float.

Timed perfectly for my new years resolution.

    Why bogans love Chico roll

    • don’t need to know how to use knife and fork to eat, also can be eaten with one hand while driving and one hand for steering.

Stuff this, nobody appreciates fine food in this town.

    • It's ozbargain… are you surprised?

It's an obscure reference to an old late night Australian comedy called bargearse haha was kinda hoping someone might have picked up on it :)

When I hear about chiko rolls I think of that scene.

        Reference below:

        • Sorry, I'm an '86er. Full Frontal/Fast Forward era.

    • hmm marathon dim sims and chiko rolls on special at the same time …. all that would be missing is potatoe cakes and you could serve up a banquet and have all food groups covered.

  • Might stock up on Chiko rolls for the barbecue at this price

Love the chiko but to be completely honest, I've never tried the corn jacks. Reviews, anyone?

    • You would have to love corn. Is pretty much corn mush inside. Buy a box on special for lowest risk try. Personally i dislike them.

Try putting them in the garbage bin where they belong…this is 2020

  • Are the corn jacks any good? Never heard of. Wonder if they’re similar to the old chicken and corn roll from school canteen.

Which animal fat is in this? It is listed as an ingredient.

    • The meat is beef I think.. just reading the chiko roll history on wikipedia. It's actually a good read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiko_Roll#History

edit: oh just checked the page and it clearly says Beef separately, so I guess you were assuming it was another animal (which it probably is because they used the word "animal" instead of lumping it into the "Beef" listing).. it probably means offal fat lol.

Chicks rolls are halal certified so you know there won't be any pork in them.

        • +1

Chiko rolls are NOT halal certified as they use Tallow (beef fat) as the cooking oil (not canola/vegetable oil). The beef inside chiko rolls is also not halal certified.

Even the chiko corn jack isn't halal as it uses the same Tallow in the fryers.

I live very close to the factory they produce chiko rolls in (Bathurst, NSW) and i've confirmed this with multiple people working in the factory.

  • can you cook these in an air fryer? I’ve never used one. But tempted to buy one.

    • +2

Yes you can. I cook them for about ten minutes, give them a quick spray of 'cooking oil' and give another five to ten minutes (until they are hot inside).

  • Get me a Chiko roll and if you take a bite out of it, you're dropped!
