[NSW, VIC, WA, QLD] Free Movie Tickets to 'Just Mercy' @ ShowFilmFirst

About The Event
Michael B. Jordan (“Black Panther,” “Creed,” “Creed II”) and Oscar winners Jamie Foxx (“Ray,” “Baby Driver,” “Django: Unchained”) and Brie Larson (“Room,” “The Glass Castle,” “Captain Marvel”) star in “Just Mercy,” an inspiring drama that brings one of the most important stories of our time to the big screen.

Award-winning filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton (“The Glass Castle,” “Short Term 12”) directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote, based on the award-winning non-fiction bestseller by Bryan Stevenson.

Based on a powerful and thought-provoking true story., “Just Mercy” follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them. Just Mercy releases in Cinemas 23rd of January 2020.

what's the point of this film?

whose entertained by anything to do with a totally corrupt country and its totally broken legal system? It's more boring and vacuous than scummo..

    • I've already got tickets to "Scomo the Musical"😉
That catchy tune "Hopes and Prayers" is just what we need in a time of crisis.
      Now sing after me…

      • that's scummo's tune - maybe our troops can sing it in Iran after they've taken casualties…

        • -1

I think you're singing out of key. Scomo doesn't like that😉
We must all sing from the same song sheet.

          • -1

@INFIDEL: you're right, its not a free country anymore.

            • @petry: I think we'll dedact that comment!
See - no problems here any more🌼

    • +3

Many films may not be entertaining to some. I personally don't enjoy many action movies, but many find them entirely entertaining.

I enjoy a movie that makes me think & question, helping me understand the human condition. That's different to be entertained!
Hoping this film will satisfy that curiosity in me.
      Besides, it's free😉

"These aren't the droids movies you're looking for."

      • 'A Texas Republican has said women who have abortions should “absolutely” be punished and deserve to go to prison for having their pregnancy terminated.
Representative Ron Wright, who was elected in 2018, responds to questions about whether or not women who induce their own abortions should be punished with jail in a video released by abortion access advocacy group Reproaction.
The politician says: “Of course, because they just killed a baby”.
When the interviewer asks if he is concerned women could be sent to prison for having abortions, he says: “As far as I’m concerned, they committed murder”.
The American justice system is working as it was intended to work, this film does not present that fact. And any abortion in many states is now punished by mandatory imprisonment - that's what Australian troops are fighting for.

        • You present it as such a simple clear issue.

Politics, power, religion, media, the legal system, etc have always had their biases. It benefits & maintains benefit to those in power.

          It's complex.

I, along with many others, have been on the receiving end of that system here - for questioning it.

After all, an Infidel is one who questions / does not believe the dominant beliefs of the system they are in.

          • +1

@INFIDEL: essentially it works as it is intended - in the US 200 years of racism and sexism is apparent all the way to the supreme court. To kill a mockingbird was 60 years ago - nothings changed, its just got worse in the US. This film just rehashes the same old themes in a manner which denies the truth- the US justice system still works exactly as it is intended to work. If it wasn't it would have been fixed after 200 years - the reality is that the US has no intention of ever ending racism or sexism, as exemplified by Donald, and similarly religious freedoms are on the way out. As our government are true blue Americans we just follow blindly into oblivion.

            • @petry: Films can't represent the entirety of complex matters. The "story" is condensed with a certain point of view. It's not reality!

Movies need to sell tickets & can't be too long. To attract financing to be made, they usually don't step on too many toes.

If you want "reality" - join others of similar beliefs. Sit in darkened rooms & brood over what is wrong with the world. Have protests / rallies. But, I'd say few are that interested in complex issues in other countries.

Of course, you could finance your own movies / media!

              • @INFIDEL: yep trash Hollywood movies faking social commentary are typically conservative and a total waste of time.

                • @petry: No film making I know presents absolute reality. It shows the bias & experience of those making the show.

In my small way in the past, I acted in & worked on the development of movies. If it doesn't attract finance - it's not going to be produced. It's an industry of BS, not of political & social change.
Don't know why you think it is anything other than what it is.

                  • @INFIDEL: In some countries films were made to generate political and social change, but distribution controls largely did away with that very small section of the film industry.

                    • -1

@petry: Those just present a different bias. And may fall into the category of propaganda (which normal movies of course aren't)😉
