Cheap Flights to NYC

Hi guys,

May be a slight repeat of a thread earlier on in regards to cheap flights to the USA but I'm looking for dates between 14th September and returning on 1st or 2nd October from SYD - JFK. Had a look at skyscanner and cheapest I could find was about $1630 with China Airlines. Travel hours looks to be about 26 hours + a 2 hour layover in Taipei which isn't too bad IMO!

Any further suggests would be fantastic. I'm actually looking to get to Portland, Maine so if anyone has anything even better to suggest I'm open to hear!

    Could be worth looking into Syd-Lax, then a cheap flight Lax-Portland (Delta is about $160USD for this flight). Fyi, megabus.com has cheap bus fares from NYC to Boston (as cheap as $1 USD)

    You may want to look at Virgin from Auckland to LAX. Last time it was about $400 cheaper than Syd-LAX. Considering the extra time via Taipei it would be faster, and then on the return stop over in SYD and dont get on the flight again (you are allowed 1 free stopover)

    Then pickup domestic flight as suggested. But havent done comparison with the NYC flight costs. But considering the Time savings and esp avoiding NY airport etc it might be a go.
