Tracking Bushfire Discounts, Who Is Offering What?

Seems every business, man and his dog is offering some form of discount and/or donation to the various bushfire appeals.
How does one keep track of just what is promised vis-a-vis actually donated.
All for a great cause but I do think we need some form of transparency of the process.

Also a lot of people asking/expecting a discount because they are a victim, helping a victim, volunteer or downright goddamn hero.

Some of the businesses donating to bush fire victims have ripped off every person in the country as citizens are forced to use them because essential services were privatised.

In the words of the ACCC these businesses have severely damaged the Australian economy.

A much better donation to bush fire victims would be exterminating these business entities so they stop directly preying on every Australian via absurdly high prices and indirectly attacking them by severely damaging the overall economy. It could be done tomorrow.

  • The validation of where our donations end up will be a problem over time. Apparently it was a big issue years ago after Cyclone Tracy hit Darwin.

Even now, I'm seeing commentary about who is managing the distribution of the donated aid (who gets it, how are the recipients identified, what do they actually need now and in the future, etc.).
I've seen some commentary that some wildlife charities are so overwhelmed (even with the donations) that they are having to euthanise some animals [not validated].
And I've seen some commentary that question why there needs to be public donations at all, with suggestions that a national disaster levy imposed by a federal government would be more effective. This isn't because people don't want to give, but it is pretty random just now.

  • Someone might be able to shed some light on this actually. When someone says "100% of profits donated to xxxxxxxx nominated charity, what is factored in? The cost of goods alone removed from the donation or, administration, potential shipping etc. just curious. Is there any form of governance on this?
