Does Electrical Safety Certificate Needed for Replacing an Existing Smoke Alarm?

Hi, does anyone know if an electrical safety certificate is needed for replacing an existing smoke alarm? Thanks

  • If the new smoke alarm is exactly the same as the old one, you should be able to replace it without touching the mains wiring. The old one will most likely just "twist" off and the new one will twist back on. The base plate with the mains wiring stays on the roof. Use the instructions from the new one to work out how to do it.
