[PC] Steam - To the moon - $0.75 US ($1.09 AUD) - Indiegala

270

Great and cheap price for a great game either a great story. If you haven't played it yet, go for it.

From the website:

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning… but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course… to go to the moon.

Key Features
- A unique & non-combat story-driven experience
- Innovative mix between adventure game elements and classic RPG aesthetics
- Acclaimed original soundtrack that closely ties to the story
- An espresso execution with zero filler and no time drains

Enjoy!

    good game.

If you want a game that's light on gameplay but tells a captivating tale, get it. Not that many games have an engrossing story but this is one of them. I believe it is in the process of getting adapted into an anime.

Not that many games have an engrossing story

You clearly don't play any games.

      • I do, I just have higher standards of what counts as 'engrossing'. Compared to books, film, and TV, video game stories aren't well told.

If you have examples, I'd love to hear them though.

The Last of Us is pretty great

@Lysander: i'm not a fan of the storytelling of any open world game. There is serious inherent ludo narrative dissonance in all of them. The fact that the world waits for you conveniently and any sense of urgency is fake breaks immersion.

The amount of games I would consider have masterful storytelling I could probably count on one hand. But I've never seen one better than a good book.

        • God of War

          • @FireRunner: The first one? Yeah that was decent.

But most people who've given me suggestions, I could tell have never read a good book. So the bar is set lower.

The thing with games is, they can be 60-300 hours long, but not enough happens during that span of time, so assessing it based on story alone (like you would a movie), you would get pacing problems.

            • @lostn: I really enjoyed the 2018 game’s story, never played the original.
I felt the pacing was great. My main complaint is that the side quests felt weak and didn’t connect well with the main

        • Firewatch, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Spec Ops: The Line, A Story About My Uncle.

  • this sounds depressing?

A better word might be 'touching' or 'emotional' - yes, some of it is sad, but you also get to see the most joyful moments in Johnny's life and help him fulfill his life's wish.

The music is a HUGE part of this game, and I rate it as one of the best games I've ever played (and I've played a hell of a lot).

      • they're not actually sending him to the moon… they're tricking his brain with a lie that he has been there - is that right?

        • Yes.

I wish this tech were real.

        • To quote Dr Watts: "But it's real to them, so that's all that matters."

  • Sorry to ask but would this work on Mac with the latest Catalina?

I had a bunch of games on steam for my Mac which I can no longer play as it doesn’t support 32bit anymore ;(

btw, there are two free DLC short episodes. They continue the story and lead into the next games in the series: A Bird's Life and Finding Paradise.

    • Those aren't DLC, they're standalone games. Finding Paradise is the sequel, a full game with the same 2 doctors helping someone else fulfill their wish.

A Bird's Life is just a short game that's sort of like a prelude to the sequel. Well worth playing IMHO.

  • Great game. Gets emotional. Definitely a must buy at this price.
