To support anyone who has suffered the tragedy of losing their home in the fires, Vodafone will provide a free Vodafone 4G Pocket WiFi Modem and 3 months free mobile broadband service so that you and your loved ones may be able to continue accessing the internet. This free modem and broadband service is available to anyone (whether or not they’re a Vodafone customer). The broadband plan has 100GB of data at our fastest network speed and then you can keep using as much data as you want at speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps.

We fully appreciate that the Vodafone network may not extend to all places impacted by the bushfires or where you may want to use the service. However, we’d like to see if we can help you, and as a mobile service you can take it with you anywhere in Australia. When you contact Vodafone, we will assist by checking if you’re likely to have 4G coverage in the places you now need it.

To receive the free modem and service we do ask that you provide proof that your home has been lost to fire, for example an insurance claim document or a fire or police report. We will provide one free modem and 3 months free access fees on our $60 SIM Only Data Plus Plan to each household for use in Australia. If you wish to remain connected after the 3 months free service has expired, we will offer you a suitable plan which may meet your ongoing needs. You may keep the Vodafone 4G Pocket WiFi Modem for future use, and there is no need to return this device even if you do not wish to stay connected with us. Please contact us before 31 January 2020 to make your application.

      Probably not. I'm 10 minutes from my capital city and I had to stand in the street to make or receive calls when I was with Vodafone.

    I can't actually think of a downside to this offer.
    The only possible limitation is where a family (or similar) may be no longer co-located; it appears that this offer is for one modem per home lost.

        Not if they move in areas with good coverage or they stay closer to city (have to move in with family or friends).

        Good on Voda for doing this. With hotspot useful if they are in a caravan or old people as well.

        Even if those eligible for this offer did find they had no coverage (which is acknowledged in Voda's statement), what is the "very big downside" you speak of?

        The offer is free, useful (if coverage is available), non-binding, and relevant to the potential users' circumstances.

      I have to agree this is a very impressive offer by Vodafone as it looks like a genuine offer of support with no strings attached.

      The criticisms about poor Vodafone coverage are not really relevant as it doesn't cost anything to try.

    This is pretty good! I hope it's easy to cancel after those 3 months as I've heard horror stories with Voda being hard to cancel.

      My read of Vodafone's statement is that they will offer a service at the end of 3 months, suggesting there is no commitment to cancel.

        What happens if the poor firies forget about it or get called in for another fire and are unable to cancel it.. or you know can't even get reception to jump online or call to cancel it.

      It didn't matter if it is on a prepaid or postpaid billing system

    What's the point, Vodafones coverage in far east Gippsland is poor to say the least, unless things have changed dramatically in the last 18 months.

    My in-laws were affected by the Fukushima nuclear accident. They were also offered a pocket wifi like this. The different thing was, the service was free for up to 5 years and it was fully paid by the government.
    I must say thank you to so many companies helping out people in need. But I'm also feeling our government is not doing enough.

      Sounds like the Japanese government had a disaster recovery plan.
      Our government appears to not have had, and we are relying on a lot of businesses and individuals to lift the load.

    Just because something is available for the unfortunate bushfire victims doesn't mean it's an automatic deal. More like a PSA.

    Voda should be congratulated for this generous offer. I'm disgusted by the cynical haters criticising them or their network.
