Brisbane - Things to do - Recommendations

Hey!

I'm heading to Brisbane for Australia day weekend.

Any restaurant recommendations, and/or bars?

Australia day parties?

Thanks :)

I'll be sitting on my couch all day staring at the wall. Feel free to join me.

Southbank Parklands. Lots of activities (and bars) there!
    Ferry to Moreton Island.
    Hire an electric scooter.
    I'll think of more later…

  • not much here.
    depends on your interest.

Are you single or with friends or with family?

you can go to the theme parks (which are actually in Gold Coast, not Bribane).

    • 2 single, mid 30s!

  • Go to the Gold Coast.

    • beaches
    • mount tambourine
    • theme parks

For an overcrowded, ugly city with no beaches? sure…

and brisbane has beaches and isn't ugly?
        its boring as f***

and you need to detect sarcasm, this is coming form someone who lives in Brisbane, don't be so previous

This is a forum for someone asking for help. Your BS sarcastic attitude is not needed or welcome. GTFO. Also, if you think Brissy is boring then I put it to you that YOU are the boring one. You are more than welcome to do us all a favour and move to Melbourne.

@dogboy: no thanks, the weather is better here despite the boring city, its just humour relax please.

Howard Smith Wharf is a new prceinct in the city with bars and restaurants which is quite popular. Bar there called Felons is nice and right on the water.
The Brekkie Creek Hotel is quite a popular place for Australia day festivities. South Bank will be nice and the inner city beach there will be popular as well.
Obviously Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are within an hour's drive. Sunshine coast is a lot nicer - Maroochydore, Caloundra, Noosa or Mooloolaba are my picks.
All the theme parks - Dreamworld, White Water World, Seaworld, Wet & Wild, Outback Spectacular, Movie World, Aussie World.
Gold Coast Hinterland is nice as well, including Mount Tambourine.
You also have the islands - Fraser, Moreton or Stradbroke. Straddie is the more accessible one and can get a passenger ferry there from Cleveland.

Its only an hour flight to Sydney

Sydney was boring as hell for me, it was expensive and the food was terrible. The worst place I've been in Australia. Canberra is much better

      • Wtf does Canberra have lmao

        • Parliament house, Royal Australian Mint, war memorial and the general atmosphere is just better. In Sydney, taking an uber from the airport to my accommodation, was cut off like 5 times.

how dare you have a sense of humour

  • There's this new darts bar that opened last month in the valley called Oche. Proper darts but with computer scoring. I though it was pretty cool.
Also as mentioned above Howard Smith Wharves nice for a drink under the Story Bridge, but it can get really busy.

  • I'm from Brisbane and I would say get a hire car and go to the gold coast if you want to see the beach, themeparks etc.

Problem with the Gold Coast is that parking is terrible.

    Really depends on your interests.

  • If you have an interest in craft breweries I can recommend…
    Green Beacon
    Newstead (two breweries across town)
    Range Brewery
    Felons
    Sealegs
    Catchment
    Brisbane Brewing
    Brewhouse
    Slipstream
    Aether
    Semipro
    Brewdog
    Revel
    All Inn

    • dont forget ballistic, Helios, Soapbox

  • If you are hanging in Bris….the City Hopper ferry is free and goes up and down the river like the city cats. Go to https://translink.com.au/travel-with-us/bus-train-ferry-tram.
Get on and off as often as you like.
    Hope you enjoy Brisbane.

    • There's also 2 X City Loop Bus on weekdays.
      Check Translink website.

    • sometimes they use the smaller old boat , choking with exhaust fumes , not fun

      • And because it's free, it's jam packed with people going to and from SouthBank Park lands. Last time we caught it, we could barely breathe on board… Packed in like sardines. Never again. Pay for the City Cats and actually enjoy the ride.

Mid 30s and single, might like to visit the Valley at night, after 9PM on Friday and Saturday nights.
Mount Cootha is also my favourite; go there before sunset and then have fine-dining at the Summit
Southbank is everyone's favourite. Dont forget to bring your bathers, sunsceen, sunnies etc etc
Live music in River Quay on Sundays

Fish Lane and HSW are two new trendy additions. FL is good after dark.

Go to Gold Coast & Sunshine Coast.

Brisbanites love their brekkie, smash avo or not. If you tell us where you stay, we can recommend some places.

Also Chinese New Year on the 25th, you'd find some CNY Events in Sunnybank area and the Valley, even Sunshine Coast.

If you like Jazz, Brisbane Jazz Club is very nice. Can also climb the Story Bridge.

  • Cancel your trip now, there is nothing to do here.

This exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art looks really interesting.

    • do you know if they're going to build another highrise there (at ex. momo chicken) ?

      • I don't know

  • Best place to go in Brisbane is Brisbane international airport.

Then you can travel anywhere else in the world and not be reminded about the Australia day / invasion day debate.
