Fix Dyson V6/V7/V8 Pulsating On and Off

Got 2 x dysons pulsating on and off (especially on max) - cleaned out bins thoroughly and washed filter etc - still pulsating…

Then found out the 'wash filter' is a joke - what you actually need to do is pop the top off the filter to pull / tap out the dust / hair inside before washing!

Some people have also commented this fixes their dysons from smelling bad due to wet dirt etc stuck inside the filter which doesnt get cleaned out with the normal rinse under a tap maintenance task

Here is a vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXioUi_-NPw&feature=youtu.be

Hope it helps someone else

    RTFM :)

This is my point - the manual doesnt say to pull it apart - it just says tap it and wash / massage it… but when there are hairs etc inside the filter, debris gets stuck to it and no amount of tapping / massaging will remove it without pulling it apart - which is not documented in the manual

Mine needs the rotating head cleaned and freed of hair and debris, not just the roller but the axle also. I go further and clean inside the knuckle. I also changed my battery after 3.5 years of heavyish use. This was all on the V6. The filter isn't your issue 9/10 times and doesn't need much attention. Dyson themselves have lots of data and videos on their products as stated above RTFM.

    • How much did a new battery cost? Did it help solve your issues?

      • I had red lights of death but prior had intermittent pulsing due to it failing. Ebay was my friend with the battery replacement, about half price compared to OEM.

  • The filter is dirty and either needs washing or replacing

  • excellent tip, thanks.

  • Yeah, the same boat, the shock I got went I opened up every part. Look forward to it clearing up the smell hopefully. Thanks for the vid.

  • Depending on the issue, also taking the basket off, Prefilter out and smacking the prefiilter hole can also remove a LOT of fine dust/powder which has caused issues with ours. Cleaned pre and post filters on weekend and removed the fine powder and is running like a charm now

I've had it pulse on and off before where the cause wasnt a clogged filter but the inlet flap being stuck in the closed position. Pulling the washable filter is always a good way to diagnose problems tho since it tells you if the pulsing is caused by a clog or some other problem with the motor or battery.

    • Had the same problem with the inlet flap as well. Freed it up and pulsing stopped.

Best vid in my opinon, brought back my v6 to life.. I regret not dismantling my dyson sooner.

  • Had exact same problem
    New battery fixed it.
Worth getting a new filter also.
