For people having their first day on the internet the internet is made of free Photoshop courses.

    • +1

You are right. When I Googled "Google search engine" into Google I got offered a million free Photoshop courses.

This one looks quite good though.

      • +2

Wait, I thought Googling "Google" breaks the internet!? :P

To anyone who never used Photoshop and wants to start, it might be a good idea to get Affinity Photo instead - it's as good as Photoshop and even better in some ways. You will save a bunch of money by not paying monthly subscription, and the software comes with very detailed and easy to follow video tutorials. In my opinion, learning Photoshop in 2020 makes sense only if you're going to work for some organization that forces you to use Adobe products (for example, if you'll be the part of creative team where everyone is using Adobe). If you do it for yourself, or if your clients don't care about which software you use, you will thank yourself for choosing Affinity.

    • so someone who uses PS casually at home should switch?

      • +1

If you're not happy with Adobe's recurring fees, or if you use an outdated standalone (non-subscription) version of PS and feel it's time to update, the answer is probably yes. There will be some learning curve as you switch, but learning to use a new exciting piece of software and saving money on the way is not a bad thing. If you're a professional user, already learned a lot about PS and use it make money, then i would say stay loyal to PS, or maybe get a free copy of Affinity and try it for a month just to see how you like it.

Completely agree! Affinity photo is just great and worth every penny.

I'm a PS user and agree. If you can start out NOT in the Adobe "family" then do so, and honestly, be happy!

    • Damn, haven't heard of it before but will try the trial

Krita with Photoshop keyboard bindings is OK on Linux but it has it's quirks

You will love it. They have 3 products (raster, vector and publishing), and they are all brilliant and can replace Adobe products easily. I've bought all 3 when they were 40% off during Black Friday plus some extra brushes and stuff.

  • Thanks, worked for me.

Also take a look at "Luminar 4" as a Photoshop alternative.

Very impressive use of AI in photo editing.
