Cheapest Dumb Phone?

I need an emergency phone for a kid. Something without a touch screen. I seem to remember coles/woolies had them for $9 a few months back but can't find them anymore… Also got to thinking can a smartphone be dumbed down to only text/phone? Blocking everything else behind a password? Might be my only option if can't find a dumb phone under $20.

    Hi,

Auspost has a Prepaid Mobile at $29

    Optus X Lite

    $29
    Starts Mon, 13 Jan. 2020 - Ends Sun, 02 Feb. 2020
    Was $49

    2.4" display
    Camera
    Expandable memory
    FM Radio
    3G MICRO SIM

    Says: 10-12 Mary Street
Gympie QLD 4570 for Auspost Shop.

    If I see anything cheaper, I’ll update…

  • Depends on who you want to have the phone with. A good Telstra option is the Telstra Lite ZTE Skinny F327S, which I think is the same/similar to the Optus X Lite. I have the Telstra Lite phone cos I needed a prepaid phone on the Telstra network when travelling inland (my usual plan has next to no signal). Very basic, you can turn off the internet in settings. I think most places sell it for $39, but I got it for $9 a couple of years ago.

    • Telstra Lite ZTE Skinny F327S .. $9

We also got that. After awhile the buttons don't always register when you press them etc..
Good for $9 though I guess.

  • You’re thinking of the Telstra cruise. They were that price at coles a couple of years ago and came with $10 credit.
There’s some on eBay for around $30.

    • Damn all the negs… Lighten Up!

  • There's also the Nokia 3310 for $29 + one month access min. ($12) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/514080

  • Found a few other options on Amazon: Samsung E3309T $19 and Telstra ZTE Lite F327S (same as the one I mentioned above).

  • Locked to Telstra - Cheap Telstra Lite Pre-Paid Phone - Black | Harvey Norman AU for $9. 14 in stock in Mt Gravatt, Qld.

Does anyone know any unlocking services so can use on Aldi or Woolworths Mobile?

I think that's the ZTE F327S which is pretty much impossible to unlock and won't even work on any MVNO's.

  • Hi Op, what did you end up buying?

Cant remember lol. One of those cheap nokia ones. Black and slick, think it was $19 or something. Ended up being a hassle to use so just set up one of my old touch phones for them which is just so user friendly in comparison. I think we have just been conditioned to use the android interface these days sadly.
