QLD Rego CTP Providers: Any Difference?

Hi Guys!

I'm going to renew the Rego of my car in QLD for the first time. I've just received the reminder and I discovered that I can choose between 4 different providers for the CTP.

At the moment the car is under RACQ and I had a look on QLD website to "compare" the different companies and that's the result.

In 10 years of driver licence I've never had a crash so I'm not very expert with insurance stuff and, from that comparative, I can't find a company definitely better than the others so, honestly, I was thinking to switch to Suncorp just to get the $30 gift card for new customers…but this sound very stupid!

I don't have any other kind of insurance on the car so would be important to have at least a good CTP insurance.

Has someone some experience with some companies and can suggest me one of them in particular or give me some tips?

Cheers!

Yes you can switch between Suncorp & QBE every year to get $25-30 gift card

Ohh boy .. you'll get flamed hard soon

CTP only insure injury/death caused by you to others and does not cover damages to car/property. CTP is compulsory included within rego payment and all CTP providers costs the same.

Highly recommending you take on additional 3rd party property insurance for just around $200pa from coles/racq/justcar/others.

So when you hit a Ferrari, you won't go bankrupt.

Get third party property you goose.

  • Please get at least 3rd party property insurance. They should make it compulsory as well for mine.

    • I came from Europe and there is not mandatory; is so cool to come here and be free to choice!
…anyway yep, since I bought this good car I’m thinking to do it…but I asked another question and no one cares!

In NSW there are a heap of providers. They all provide the same mandated cover, but some provide a little bonus cover or discounts on other policies etc. Assuming Qld it is the same, just pick the cheapest.

The get some extra cover. Either Third party property (TPP) or comprehensive. This is not mandatory, but you are takin a very big risk not having any. It is a common theme on this forum to ask for help when someone causes damage to another vehicle/property and doesn’t have insurance and want to know what they can do. If you can afford to replace your vehicle (immediately) yourself get TPP. if you will struggle to pay for a new car if someone else hits your car and is not insured, get comprehensive.

  • Just a note - sadly the ability to get a bonus or discount for choosing your CTP provider only seems to apply to cars.. you don't get anything when you are renewing your motorcycle or scooter rego/ctp..

And as such I'm sticking with Suncorp as there is no gain to switch to QBE (for CTP).
