Which Cheap TV to Buy?

My 42” plasma just went to a black screen. Still has sound but no picture.

I’m assuming it’s cheaper to replace than repair. Long out of warranty.

Which cheap tv could I get in a similar size that would have a good quality picture? Doesn’t even need to be a smart tv. Must have afterpay. I would prefer in store pick up so I can have it tomorrow.

    Define cheap. $500? $300?

    • Just buy a cheap one from a cheap shop

Did you try hitting it really hard?

    • Yes. And unplugged it for a while. Thanks.

Btw after hitting it last night it also has no sound. Must have got the wrong spot.

        • Hmm…it used to work 20 years ago.

  • Location?
    Budget?

    • Adelaide. $0 😭
School expenses, kids starting activities that require payment.

I've got a Kogan and TCL 4K TV

Kogan is better if you want to save an extra 100 or 2

TCL is bit better quality for me imo

Or one of the ones from Big W. Think I seen they do afterpay

    • Would it fit in the back of a station wagon?

      • Depending what size. A 65" TV just fit in the back on my Sports SUV

  • Is this reasonable from myer?

They can deliver today for $14.95

It is reasonable but you'd be able to find a 4K TV for about the same price and bigger in a no-name brand

Aldi always seem to have cheap large TV's. I'd start there

FFALCON 40" F1 FHD LED TV $299 at both TGG & JB Hi Fi

  • Recently bought the EKO 65 inch with Android TV from Big W for $559 and pretty happy with it.

It's now $899 but the 55 inch still seems good value. Don't forget discounted Wish gift card.

    Must have afterpay.

    🚨 🚨 🚨

If at all possible, try and save up some cash. You might be placing yourself in further financial stress (and incurring fees) down the track.

Consider gumtree too, second hand TVs are worth bugger all compared to new. If you have a local facebook buy swap sell type group people sometimes even give them away.

I’m assuming it’s cheaper to replace than repair.

Search for the model number and add "black screen", or "service manual", or "repair" online, you never know. Fair chance to be an easily repaired fault. If you have any friends who know their way around electronics it could be a cheap fix.

Second hand TVs going for a song
I bought a good quality 50" LCD TV for $100.
In fact I have bought a few now and not a problem

Just stay away Sonic and Kogan TVs

    • Second this. Get a second hand 1080p TV from a reputable brand. Now that 4k TVs are mainstream the resale value for 1080p sets has plummeted. 99% of content is still being server at 1080p and a good native 1080p screen displaying 1080p content will look better than a cheap 4k TV.

  • Afterpay =/= cheap. Retailer has to recoup what it costs somehow.

    • Get the best deal you can and the put it on Afterpay.

  • Why not try good old Vinnies ? If you struggle that bad.
