Hello
I have a plan in my mind to do an internet based service business. Nothing big, planning to launch it in a very small scale. And that too, after 6-10 months. Before that, I need to buy a .com.au domain. I have a questionregarding this.
As of now, I just want to concentrate on building the website. Creating good content and doing seo and stuff. No business planned at the moment. Obviously I need to have an ABN number while registering the domain, I understand-as it is a .com.au website. Do I have to sign up for GST now? I reckon I saw an option on the domain registrar website asking whether I’m gonna pay gst or not -if yes, select an option which needs me to pay $49 in addition. I’m not doing any business right as mentioned.
Or do I just go ahead and purchase a .com.au website without taking care of GST? I don’t want to get into any legal issues. If someone who has any insight could help me out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I am under the impression you do not need an ABN to register a domain name. Equally, you do not need to worry about registering for GST unless you have a turnover of over $A75,000 pa.
