amaysim Deducting from Credit Card Even When Payment Method Is BPAY

Hey Guys,

I have an Amaysim mobile account for my father. I laveraged an introductory offer of 6 x 28 day recharges for a small fee. In the amaysim portal I changed the payment method from Credit Card to BPAY months ago, only to receive an sms the other day stating funds have been deducted from my credit card (As the 6 x 28 day period was over). I've read through there T&C & don't see anything about a condition where if you don't pay via say BPAY it will default back to a previous method of payment.. In my case credit card.. Naturally I am a little annoyed as I planned to look at other plans and/or just stick with Amaysim.. But given this has occured I actually am a tad pissed over it & certainly will not stay with them..

Has anyone has this same issue? I have already lodged a complaint tonight with Amaysim.. Will be happy to take it further just on principle if they so choose to not revert the deducted funds from my credit card (That they should never have done anyway).

  • I found Amaysim were just too difficult to get support from. If your phone(s) are not locked to Optus then move on. You could try Aldi Mobile (based on the Telstra network) but they may also want credit card. I'm sure there are places that will take BPay but you may have to hunt around to find them. Sorry, this is not quite the answer to your question but it's the best I can suggest.

I just logged into my account to check again as it expires 11th Feb. I changed the payment method to Bpay a long time ago. It's still the same but it appears they've added a new feature I've never seen before.

Go to - Manage Plan - Auto-renew - it was on, so I just turned it off.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Note - I don't think you are meant to turn this off if you have more than 28 days remaining.

Same here, mine auto-renews in 3 days. With BPAY as the payment method, previously one would assume it is up to us to renew if we want to.
But now, the Auto-renew feature defaults to ON (irrespective of the payment method) and has to be turned off explicitly. OP, I think you have a good case to get refunded.
