I've decided i'm not getting a new car unless i win one. Lol. My car is a bomby little hyundai excel with paint peeling so bad that my bonnet has turned white and a nice rusty colour from a metallic purple! Hahaha. Everybody asks me when i'm getting a new car, but it gets me from A to B at this stage.. not sure how much longer it'll last. Any help in listing competitions to win a car would be much appreciated.

I've currently downloaded the Kyle and Jackio car chase app.. a Holden cruze with 10k in the boot looks nice to win.. but i need to enter as many comps as possible to win a car!

  • Those that crossed my mind:
    - Raffles at shopping centres
    - Casinos

    • Hmm.. i was hoping for an easy entry.. like enter in your details.. or 25 words or less (i hate those, but i'll give it a try!)

      • 25 words or less (i hate those, but i'll give it a try!)

        Tip From Scotty's post

While I personally haven't really won anything, my next door neighbour is pretty much making his living out of it (he is on disabled pension, and his now-ex was on carer's pension). His ex-de-facto was really good at writing little poems to enter into those "25 words or less" competitions, and she was on radio all day picking up new comps.
        They had
        New kitchen renovation
New bathroom renovation (although the renovation itself did not go too well)
Big Panasonic Plasma TV (a few years ago, so was bloody expensive back then)
        Digital camera
        etc
There are actually quite a few of those websites in Australia dedicated to competitions where people getting info on new comps, comparing results and showing off achievements. I am not surprised that there might be a lot more people living off various comps.

        and Good Luck!

  • If the chance of winning a car is 1 in 1 million, then on average you'll need to enter 1 million competitions to win a car…

    • +1

But i've still got that chance if i enter it ;-) You gota be in it to win it!

    • If the chance of winning a car is 1 in 1 million, then on average you'll need to enter 1 million competitions to win a car…

and then when you factor in the price of the raffle ticket, you'll would be able to purchase a FEW new cars
(not saying that the chance is 1 in 1million, but probably 1 in X0,000, where x is a number between 1-9)

  • Join CompingClub
This web is basically like Ozbargain, but for comps
But remember, your changes are extremely slim

    • I joined that site last night.. i've entered a few comps there. Is there a filter for prizes you can win in comps instead of scrolling through all comps in the calender?

      • not sure, but i use Ctrl+F (basically find) and then you type car

        i.e.

        1) Go on the calendar of comps
        2) Press Ctrl+F
        3) Type car

        • Ahhh good idea! ;-) Ta

      • Yes, there is a filter for 'major prizes', but you need 'Compfolio' which is is their paid service ($10-20 donation a year). You can also use Compfolio to sort by prize value.

        • Ahhh i was trying to figure out what compfolio was. Sounds alright.. but i guess searching the calendar like Issh suggested could work too :-)

        • I would recommend getting Compfolio. It will save you a lot of time in searches. You can search on various parameters - prize value, closing date, type of prize, type of entry etc. It also tracks competitions you have entered.

    • or join www.lottos.com.au - over 7 cars won by members this year.
Australian owned (no tax free "donations") and the original competitions tracking system.

  • This one closes in a few hours - http://www.trendmicrogotigers.com/
"Try Titanium Maximum Security by Trend Micro for your chance to WIN a Hyundai i30 1.6 SX automatic petrol model"

Entries close at 11:59pm AEST on 24/08/11
"www.trendmicrogotigers.com and register for free trial of Titanium Maximum Security and tell us in 25 words or less how much time they spend on the internet at home and what humorous experiences they have had with viruses, spam or other threats on the internet"

    • Winner has until 5:00pm AEST 24/09/11 to collect the prize from Ryde Motor Group, 771-775 Victoria Road, Ryde NSW.
    • Thanks heaps! I've just entered! God i hope i win this! Do you know if you definitely have to install the trial version of trend? Im pretty happy with avast.

      • Not sure as I never entered as it has winner collect the car and I'm in Qld so didn't think it was worth the hassle.

  • believe there is a royal melbourne hospital lucky draw.. might even win a house.

    • Sounds pretty cool. I'm in Sydney though. Any way i can enter this competition without traveling down to Melbourne? ;-)

    • Wow! Where'd you find all those? I only entered one of those though so far.

Pepsi - requires a unique code
7pm project - requires code word
Huggies - required a sign up then enter the comp (i'll probably get around to that tomorrow)
Bingle - requires trivia q's answered that come out every friday
ses - requires purchase over $30

      • I entered the Pepsi Max comp around 60 times and didn't even win a daily prize. I would stick to car competitions that are not likely to have a huge number of entries. I'm interested to see this rusted turned purple car. Got a pic?

        • +2

Its a purple turned rusted car ;-) Here's some pics! If anyone has a nice brand new car to give away.. pick me! Haha =D There are two pictures of my cracking dashboard - it'll probably fall on my lap one of these days! lol. And there is a picture of my bonnet. My roof is the whitish colour of my bonnet.. but has weird looking circle things.. so it looks like a bald patch.. Hmmmm :-P

        • Wow kimba, Just had a chance to look at the pics. I've never seen a dashboard crack. I'm hoping you win one of these contests!

        • wow. When you do get a new car, get one of those dashboard covers/protectors, it'll definitely help prevent your car from falling apart.

        • I do have a dashboard cover.. look in the second pic ;-) Not sure why the cracks happened.. but it did :-( I was quoted $200 to trade in my car.. and that was last year.. imagine how much it would've devalued by now! lol. Only 130,XXX km's as well!

        • Holy crap! I'm surprise the cops dont pull you over!

good luck with winning a car.

maybe try the lottery. if you win the lottery you can buy any car you want

  • +1

    LOL, good luck Kimba! :)

I don't even look at competitions now, never won any myself…I'm the epitome of that old Lucky Grills joke: "I'm so unlucky, if I fell into a barrel of boobs I'd come out sucking my thumb!" :p

  • Corolla Levin ZR Hatchback
"Tell us in 100 words or less what Toyota Quality means to you"
    http://www.ninemsn.com.au/toyota

    Win a Hyundai ix35
Do a style rating type thing then answer a question along the lines of what do you like "style, adventure or technology and why" I think you can enter once a week.
    http://www.ninemsn.com.au/ix35

  • O kimba88, I also have a white Hyundai Excel 97 model, with hail damage all over. Still going strong though, and like you said, it's getting me from A to B, cheap petrolwise, and no need for comprehensive insurance since it's a bomb anyway lol. Rego time is not so stressful anymore, coz it's so old.
I'm also entering every car comp like mad, there's one atm run by NRMA, so if you have road assistance cover, you can enter it to win a Toyota Aurion if I'm correct, sorry will edit it if wrong when I get home tonight.

    Good luck :)

    • Haha.. i think i still take out comprehensive insurance.. seems like such a waste eh? Hopefully someone steals my car and drives it into a damn.. never to be found! So the rust i've accumulated now wont affect my insurance payout ;-)

I have road side assistance with NRMA.. might check it out!

  • Another one… requires purchase
    http://www.keepitrio.com.au/

  • Awwww.. i didn't win the Holden Cruze from the kyle and jackio car chase :-( I have to keep entering.. keep the car comps coming! Thanks people!

  • Mitsubishi Lancer
    http://www.fox.com.au/win/mitsubishi-lancer

The terms state that "Entry is available to permanent residents of: Victoria" but the entry form includes other states.

"Tell us in 50 words or less why winning a Mitsubishi Lancer would improve your image for your chance to win a brand new Lancer SX plus there are $500 petrol vouchers to be given away each week."

I found one…. www.bigbookofdeals.com.au is giving away a KIA RIO and all you need to do is sign up to their website to enter. They also say a $500 gift card and 1000 instant prizes is up for grabs. =)

  • OK people.. i REALLY NEED a new car now!! :'-( Had a car accident today and my little purple people eater has now been written off (i think) :-( The car i slammed into had barely any damage! Please help me win a car!

R.I.P Little Purple People Eater :-(

    • What happened? Will you be getting insurance money?

      • Wet conditions.. a couple of cars infront of the lady i slammed into apparently braked suddenly cos they almost merged into each other or slid out.. im not sure.. then my car just couldnt stop.. tyres were locked. I think i was going about 40km/h in an 80km/h zone cos there were lights ahead and i saw the traffic come to a stop.
I will probably get a little bit of insurance money, but that'll probably pay for excess and my fine and all.. ahhh FML!

        • Do not tailgate! I feel sorry for the person you slammed into.

        • I definitely was not tail gating. I was a fair distance away from the vehicle.. wet conditions and a steep hill didn't help. I probably could have had a little more distance between me and the vehicle in front.. but i definitely was not tail gating. Tail gating is my pet hate! Turns out to be a $20,000 accident out of my pocket. Hard lesson to learn.. but whats done is done.

        • +1

Not intentionally trying to make you feel worse but at least now you will know to adjust your distance depending on the situation. I've been the guy "in front" and have had to take public transport for a month during repairs.

    • Oh dear, I feel so sorry for you. Now hopefully your next experience would be a lucky one — win a car!
