How Many Competitions Have You Won?

There is currently a thread on Whirlpool about how many competitions people have won. Some remarkable results on there.

Off the top of my head, I recall winning a slab of beer once. Pepsi Max had a competition that was related to the movie Narnia (free Ipods, computers). Ended up winning a free pass to see Narnia, which went straight to the bin.

So I pose the question to OzBargainers, how many competitions have you won?

  • +2

"and otehr micellaneous things" - I hope you win a spell checker ;-)

On a more serious note I have won stuff all but hoping to win a Jawsome Man Chew Maxibon toy now that I have to enter a competition with 25 words or less rather than registering my details.

ive won a sports bag pack from fhm for stating in 25 words or less why i needed a new pair of football boots

something along the lines of " id use them to kick people i didnt like on the arse, while maintaining i was going for the ball" lol

but i dont enter many of these things…

  • I've won a Navman GPS and a couple of movie tickets before.

  • won a razor scooter from lightsound before

  • Mainly movie tix from the early screenings
and a iPod touch 2nd gen from a shaver competition…
I am pretty poor luck at winning things!
    fingers crossed

  • I have never won an online competition.

I have however won a few raffle tickets and about $300 of cash in a RSL club. That's probably my biggest winning so far.

    I've had some incredible luck with competitions over the years. All my mates reckon i cheat somehow lol, these are the ones i can remember;

4 x Power Rangers Live tickets (a while back, ool, but they were worth quite abit) (Magazine? can't really remember)
    Timezone $500 powercard (some magazine)
    Mens DKNY Watch (can't remember)
    Numerous movie tickets
Australian Premier tickets to Coach Carter (village)
Village Unlimited VIP PAss for 2 for 6 months, (free unlimited tickets for 2) (Village)

Aus Team Cricket Summer series guersey and bottle, cap ect (Weet-bix by memory)
    Richmond FC guernsey (radio)
VB series cricket bat signed by the team and framed (radio)

i think ive run out of luck though, lol, ive been on a cold streak for the past 12 or so months.

    • That is pretty incredible. How'd you go about winning all the Village tickets?

      • The Premier tickets and VIP passes were won with a comp where you had to enter ticket numbers online to enter, the gold class ticket packs were from the crack the code comps

    • wow, you sure are lucky

  • Umm I once won a Hoyts pack (tshirt, diary, bandana) for pirates of the caribbean
A revlon online competition, I won eyeliner and something else?
More recently I entered a competition from Estee Lauder on their Facebook page and won $500 worth of makeup/a 12 month subscription to vogue… you wouldn't believe how little makeup you can buy for $500 :S

Nil. I suck at those "25 words or less" competitions, to a point that I have not really bothered :P

  • I think I'm inspired to try entering more 25 words or less competitions now after seeing everyone's winnings. Anyone have any tips? ;)

    • Something funny, completely different and i also find something kinda random works

    • that was 22 words

  • Ben Sherman watch from COTD a year ago.

  • Those that I can recall:

    • $300 Coles/Myer voucher from a raffle draw
    • a 24-inch CRT TV from some lucky draw at some timeshare-type talk.
    • a human sized pluto plush dog from some bingo game
    • a sony vaio from pepsi competition (only two sms-es sent)
    • a hamper from a lucky draw at company ball
    • 2 hoyts la premier tickets to twilight (given away) from some car company.

I consider myself rather lucky, but I know someone who won a car from some Maccas promotion years back. Now that I call luck. :)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the cadbury deal. I'm sure many had actually 'won' from that.

I seem to go alright at 25 words or less competitions.
I've won a television and dvd player, a logitech pack, a smartphone and an xbox 360 in some different competitions.
I normally try the witty approach (haven't really bothered for a few months) but I think it really depends upon the judges sense of humour.

    • GEEZUS!!! I hate you.

  • I've always noticed people either win heaps of stuff through competitions or nothing at all, and this list seems to confirm that! The only thing I've ever won was a signed INXS album (post Michael), which was a runner-up prize

  • over the years, I've won, a Yahoo Umbrella, CD's from Threedworld.com.au, and also I've won tickets to a club/party that I didn't end up going to! LOL

  • I actually just won something in the recent nutrigrain promotion.

Free BMX bike for me… now how do I sell something which has the liquidity of used turd. (RRP is $499)

    :(

  • i enter everything and never win..

im going to start doing more on rewardscentral I think to try and get some giftcards for doing surveys..

anyone use them? how long does it take to get enough points for a prize?

    • +1

RewardsCentral takes awhile, I find for me, their surveys are few and far between. There are a few other legit survey sites that I have found that I get a lot of surveys from which give you a bit of $$ for referrals, etc, and the $ per survey is worth more, i.e. 25 min survey = $3 instead of $2.50.

      • If you spending your time like that, wouldn't you rather work?
Even the low end jobs (fast food) pays more.

        • I work FT as well, the surveys are just a bit of extra when you're sitting at home on the PC anyway

        • I tried surveys but they were just too slow. Much better to spend the time on finding freebies.

        • +1

I do them while I'm at work. One website in particular is pretty good. Have made $50 in the last couple of months.

    • $1000 worth of travel from Travelshop in Perth.
    • Matrix movie soundtrack CD
    • Packet of AAA batteries through Fox FM
    • About 9 or 10 double passes to movies in the past 15 years (so hardly rolling in every week!!!)
  • I mostly win on the radio…

Off the top of my head
    - $700 Cash on the Pop Quiz
    - $500 worth of CD's (which surprisingly wasn't many and they were pretty crap lol, demo cd's from the station)
    - $250 Cash (Ring and win)
    - $300 Cash (had to quote the next line of a famous movie)
    - 3 night pampering trip to Rotorua in May last year

    Other stuff
    - Mascara (online)
    - Movie tickets
    - A giant block of Cadbury chocolate from the easter raffle when I was in primary school
    - A Samsung flip phone from the Stacker game (yes it's possible to win!) Too bad the prizes were all crap, lol
    - A Guitar Hero Game & Cap from when they had the promo at Westfield, Got 3rd place by playing TTFAF LOL!

  • About 5 years ago a friend of my missus won second prize in one of those Boys Town raffles. Ended up with a 4WD, caravan, some gold bullion and a few other bits and pieces from memory. She brought the ticket after being pestered with a cold call. The ironic thing is she has now put herself of the do not call register.

    • Wow nice

      Boys town raffles-prizes are nice

  • i have won lots of movie tix, $200 music shop voucher (THAT WAS 12 YEARS AGO) food vouchers, mini jackpot at the crown in melbourne, two pairs of skull candy headphones, discounts to online stores, free entry to club nights, cd's and lots of little other things i cant remember.

  • I won $50 from Intel (something about a developer platform or some kind of store or something, it was awhile ago).

Can't remember anything else actually worth mentioning.

  • is there a website for competitions, like this one is for bargains?

  • various music CDs including a signed Akon CD, an mp3 player and a trip to Cairns.

  • +2

While I personally haven't really won anything, my next door neighbour is pretty much making his living out of it (he is on disabled pension, and his now-ex was on carer's pension). His ex-de-facto was really good at writing little poems to enter into those "25 words or less" competitions, and she was on radio all day picking up new comps.

    They had

    • New kitchen renovation
    • New bathroom renovation (although the renovation itself did not go too well)
    • Big Panasonic Plasma TV (a few years ago, so was bloody expensive back then)
    • Digital camera
    • etc

There are actually quite a few of those websites in Australia dedicated to competitions where people getting info on new comps, comparing results and showing off achievements. I am not surprised that there might be a lot more people living off various comps.

    • +2

His ex-de-facto was really good at writing little poems to enter into those "25 words or less" competitions

Haven't thought of using poems, smart idea

      • +2

Yeah we found out when I asked her to give us some tips on one of the competitions I tried to get into. I still did not win though :(

  • I discovered a website called 'lottos' which sounds very scummy to me. You gotta pay a $44 membership to view all the competitions. kinda makes it unfair as well posting about comps not many people would normally hear about (except the people who are regular viewers) and lessening the odds for the true fans to win..

    • lessening the odds for the true fans to win

true fans will pay $44 because it lessens the odds of non-paying people to win

    • You can view the comps, just not the direct link to it. I just Google the competition. ;)

    • The cost is because lottos.com.au has no banner adverts and no spammy emails sent. If you can't afford 80 cents a week, you haven't used the functions on the lottos website - or competitions are not the hobby for you.

  • My main goal at the moment is to win: car, ipad and large TV. Maybe a bit of cash would be good too.

It sucks being a poor uni student, I enter all these comps but luck is yet to come my way…

    • +1

Maybe you should WORK towards that goal by, you know, getting a part time job?

      • +1

Ashlea … this is your 888th post …. verrrrry lucky number …. maybe you will win something soon :)

        • +1

          so sad 889

        • +1

          awwwwww

  • too much going on in my life at the moment, I earn small income from doing online surveys. Uni keeps me occupied and I like to actually enjoy my weekends..

  • +1

The only competition I remember winning was the Bradman Award in a golf tournament - for the highest score. I got a large pot plant.

They then disqualified me from winning a host of other trophies like "most balls in the water" :(

  • I met a couple, family friends, once up on the Gold Coast who had won the lovely house we were sitting in, in a raffle! :)

  • I have won some random ones here and there - a couple from Youth Week a few years back including some magazine subscriptions, books, sports pack. I've also won a Scrabble set (Femail), a load of movie passes, some concert tickets to the Young Divas, some books, a Pirates of the Carribean merchandise pack.

  • Within the last 15 years, a Hills swing set and a rectangle Hills trampoline from Foxtel, Morey bodyboard from Milo, $100 gift voucher from Woolies comp and 4 jumbo packs of newborn Huggies nappies from can't remember where :) So, not many :(

  • I won an iPod Nano form Melbourne Uni's open day last year :)
Sold it on ebay for $170

  • +6

Won a "tell us your best star-wars-related story" comp on the radio about 10 years back. The prize was a night in a luxury Gold Coast penthouse suite, limo ride to exclusive pre-screening of the re-released special-edition star wars in a newly opened cinema, huge after party etc. Wild night, really one to remember. If only I could.

But the best part: that was the day I met my wife. She actually pulled her car over she was laughing that hard at the radio. Called her mum and said "You've got to hear this idiot on the radio". She learned later that day that it was a bloke she'd seen in some of her classes at uni.

Been together nearly 14 years; I still remind her that she "married that idiot" when I need to get out of trouble ;)

    • epic story

    • Nice story.

Although I think you left out that the worst part of that Starwars penthouse party, which was watching Episode I: Phantom Menace (10 years ago, right?!) and pretended Jar Jar Binks was actually funny :P

      • +1

Nah, re-mastered special edition "A New Hope". Closer to 14 years ago?

        Greedo shooting first cringe

  • Also won a copy of "Cricket 07" ps2 edition from cybershack radio during their "name a game they have in their office" competition

  • I never win anything.

  • When I was 11-12, there was this Coco Pops competition in which you need to play an online game and determine which of 5 characters committed a coco-pops related crime. To make an accusation at the end, you needed to enter your barcode number. I figured out a pattern to the barcode numbers, so entered like 20 times and won (scammed) $100 voucher. (Don't Judge me… I was just a kid)

More legitimately, I've won a $100 Coles voucher when my local Coles first opened and a trip for 4 to the Circus.

  • Have one absolutely nothing apart from that one Easter Gift basket when I was a kid.

Mm…oh, and a ton of Mars Bars (if that still counts as 'winning a competition') =P

  • +1

just won tickets to good charlotte from take40

  • Just won a personal training scholarship through SLSA and PT Train. Amped.

  • wow @ nubzy and MattyD

    Lucky

  • i'm not a luck fellow, i have only won a few raffle tickets, nothing special

  • I've been winning things steadily for about 10 years now. At least 20 prizes a year. So far this year I'm on 4 winnings. The most memorable prize ever was one whole year of free movies at Greater Union. I could watch 2 movies a day. Another memorable prize was a tea pack containing about 20 packs of tea and a Fuji knife. Just discovered the knife the other day after moving house and it is the best knife ever! Other prizes have been dvd sets, cd's, concert tickets, heaps of movie passes, a Remington hairdryer & straigtner set, a wine pack… and so much more.

    • The most memorable prize ever was one whole year of free movies at Greater Union. I could watch 2 movies a day

wow…they think the average person watches 2 per day…unbelievable…still, win is a win!

    • hey compingqueen where do you find out about the competitions? im using compingclub.com at the moment which seems good. I do not like the sound of Lottos where you have to pay a membership fee thats very scummy.

      • +1

yeah, compingclub has everything. Sometimes I enter competitions, forget about them and then win something still not really knowing how I entered it in the first place lol. The one year unlimited pass to the movies was through the Sunday paper, about 6 years ago.

        • thanks signed up!

      • Hmmmm lottos established in 2000, the other many years later. They ask for a (tax free earnings?) 'donation' to use the full functionality.

  • good luck to you issh.

It was completely out of the blue take 40 called me up yesterday when i was coming off the bus. nice surprise.

  • Hmm… When I was younger I won a bad full of lollies from 'Disney Adventurews' magazine.

I've won… Copy of Halo Reach, Kane and Lynch 3, Xbox 360 Kinect, iPod Nano, a ton of CDs and Movie tickets

Came at a good time as we had just purchased our home.

    • Congratulations! Now you might want to stay away from OzBargain for a while so won't get tempted to buy all those bargains!
