Try hardware stores or places that sell PPE and OH&S gear. Also to help your search, look for P2 masks as well, they are equivalent to a N95/R95 mask.

  • Check your local Chemist Warehouse - they sell N95 masks.

All out of stock here at Perth metro at least. Mate's bf is from HK - says all chinese international students rushed onto every shop and online to buy it to sell for huge profits in China. Look at Gumtree too, people are selling 1x mask for 5-8$ each.

Now imagine, all these masks are likely to be manufactured in China…

  • Bunnings

  • Nearest hospital emergency department for a free mask.

Order from Officeworks online and click and collect. Takes a few days as they post from a warehouse to the store.

I saw some Ubereats people on bicycles who didn't have a mask, but are just using a bandana around their mouths. I think it's better than nothing if there is no N95 stock. I still see a lot of people not wearing the surgical mask properly as it isn't tightly fitted around their face.

Usually the virus attaches onto larger droplets of vapor and normal masks should be protective enough according to some Doctors… Anything that is left on the streets after the vapors have dried up will most likely die very quickly because of the high temperatures. Coming into winter though, we should be using proper medical grade N95 masks as the outbreak will peak in March, April or May.

You still have time. That is if we start to stop people hoarding them and sending them overseas… That's why we need to enforce some restriction sooner rather than later.

    • Sending them overseas? Where? Nothing is getting into China.

Why is people wearing masks right now? It isn't like it is peaking. Problem is going to be out of masks by the time the virus does spread. 30C+ in most of Eastern Australia over the next couple of days. No masks needed.

      Maybe read this article

Some people are going to end up with more than a lifetime of masks at home by June I suspect.

      • Deliveries overseas are still allowed and operating, albeit slower than usual in China. In fact you can still fly into China if you are brave.

You need to get some masks for Winter… If you don't have any and it does end up spreading much worse then you're screwed.

        From AFR:

We also need a restriction to stop idiots hoarding them. That's why we need to do it now. Customs checks and more. It should form part of the basic drug/narcotics checks. It doesn't really take any longer to check. There is no additional cost to Australia to do these checks.

You've caught the panic. That is the real epidemic going around right now.

You need prolonged close contact (family) to get it right now.

Restrictions? Maybe China should restrict export of masks then we're really screwed.

          • @netjock: Are you one of those who believe that China really can produce enough masks for themselves like their media states?

Makes me wonder… Do these figures include Taiwan, which is one of the net surplus producers? Makes me wonder why there are still videos of couriers in China stealing masks before they get to their destination. Questions about why people are reusing masks and basically told to steam the mask to disinfect it. None of this should be happening if China really was telling the truth about mask numbers and real production numbers. That's the problem, all the statistics are fake. I used to peddle that China was great, but now I see this am I'm ashamed.

Believe me, I'm like the biggest China supporter. I've been promoting Taobao in Australia for years and helping with community events like tea expos, lunar new year, and those "dinners". God damnit. It's my home, I would be stuck there right now if I hadn't made the right decisions and followed up concerns on WeChat. But damn, I can't watch and see the people close to me in Australia possibly become infected because of a lack of awareness. How about protecting the workers of Australia? Damn, we live here now. We can do the best to make this nation a better place. It's our duty.

Ironic that the 1000 masks the association sent across will most likely not even get to the destination. Rumours are that the masks are going to the officials, but real footage shows it is really your ordinary low-life courier stealing it for mass resale. Or maybe there is more to the story, bribes? 1km queue to buy masks in Guangzhou. I don't know what to believe anymore. Is China really producing enough masks that any will be exported at all? We had to rely on the USA to send us masks for the bushfire remember? Or do we just scrub that under the rug and just forget about that? How about we boost local production?

I think the problem is you're not looking at what is happening on the ground in China. Have you actually watched any of those videos? Do you really think China is exporting masks at a time when there is a shortage in their own country and for the foreseeable future?

Imports into China are being cleared fast, exports well, that's a crawl due to CNY, and some parcels and shipments may be indefinitely delayed.

            • @Debuting: You are going to die from panic before coronavirus.

You use all this emotive language to put urgency into the situation but seriously I don't know whether you have like a PhD in immunology and bioscience (not that I have) otherwise you are just hyperventilating hysteria.

  • Anyone know if https://www.bunnings.com.au/protector-disposable-respirators… from Bunnings are the same as N95 masks? All the Bunnings stores around me have sold out for the 3M branded ones.

    • yes. they are exactly the same

  • this coronavirus is .1 micron in size.

N95, N99, N100 Masks can only filter things larger then .3 micron

they dont stop this virus at all.
if it gets bad. buy alot of food and stay in your house and away from crowds.
its the only way to not get it.

    • Like using a piece of steel reo as a bulletproof vest…

this coronavirus is .1 micron in size.

The virus doesn't float around by itself. It is always carried in some bodily fluid like saliva or snot so it's going be in a much bigger form - it'll be greater than 1 micron (ie, more than 10 times the size of the virus itself).

The N95/P2 masks are effective if worn properly with the seal around the face. (I suspect most people wear it with a huge gap because they are not comfortable when worn properly).

      • If it lands on your mask some droplets might have got on your eyeballs too.

You better spend all day improving your blink speed.

        • Just be careful to not laugh so hard too because some of the droplets might get sucked into your anus! lol

          • +1

@bobbified: I usually laugh so hard, due to stomach contractions I fart. Methane is a greenhouse gas which may also kill you, you better find a mask for that.

You can get them about two weeks ago
