OK. Ill ask it. ANy good?

    • I'd like to know as well. Can't find anything on this particular model. Worst case if it's rubbish, take it back for a refund.

      • +1

Got 60 days to take it back if it's flawed. Take it from someone whose dash cam saved them prison time - if you don't have a dash cam you are mad - it is factual proof that you have control of…

        • Story?

          • +7

@Shon: To save internet stalking of me - I was detained for unlawful homicide my dash cam proved I wasn't involved.

            • @iratepirate: omg you…. I was so shocked by your situation…. fark man, the system is so farkin broken.

              • +4

@Jack D Price: Nope the system works. My recently ex partner was found deceased with head injuries. I had been there that day to drop off our child for her fortnightly weekend custody, unsuccessfully.
I was well treated by the police - sh*t I would have arrested me too. When it became obvious that I was not involved (some time later…) they let me go to pick up the pieces.

                • +7

@iratepirate: Wow no wonder you're irate!

                • +1

@iratepirate: How do I say this… Congrats on having a well-balance objective response to that horrible situation. Commiserations for it ever happening.

                • @iratepirate: Daaaaaamn, not what i expected to get from a dashcam post

        • I’ve been slow getting what seems a sensible reason to install a dash cam. But reading your post… Holy crap your scenario. Thank you for sharing your unfortunate but incredible story.

  • Hmm.. not to knock this deal or anything, but I have a 2" screen dashcam and I find that it blocks my view a little when I look to the left of my windscreen at an angle. This dashcam has a 4" screen, so something to think about.

    • Mount it on the passenger side

      • It is. It is mounted on the passenger side.

    • You dont have yours behind the rear view mirror?

      • The mount is a bit too long, so the dashcam blocks a little bit of the view below the rearview mirror with the mount. Anyway, just trying to helpful.

  • +2

This thing pretty much doesn't exist on the internet from my basic search. All I care about with dashcams is battery vs capacitor - anyone have any idea?

    • +1

I searched around as well, and it isn't even listed on Uniden's website. Best guess is .. if it doesn't state that there's a capacitor, assume there's a battery inside.

    • Which is better?

      • +1

It's all about heat - batteries don't like getting hot whereas capacitors can handle it. I personally am only interested in capacitor versions

must be similar to this one? iGO 345 vs iGO 30?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/uniden-igo-cam-30-smart-d…

    • +4

I simply posted it for the reviews of on a simliar price point from the same brand. Not saying its the same product ya downvoters

      • +6

I don't think they're very similar, but not worthy of negs. Don't take it to heart though man, it's easier to hit - than formulate a sentence for some people.

  • +7

It looks somewhat similar to this one from Kogan.
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/4-inch-1296p-dual-camera-dash-c…

  • Assuming 12 month warranty? I feel like that's an important factor to consider.

  • +4

Can you use these dual dash cams well enough as a reversing camera?

    • Probably not, since I believe the screen on the dashcam will usually only display the video feed from the front camera. Maybe the dual camera ones are different and you can select which video feed to display on the screen.

      • +1

        And not this particular one.

Rear view camera video resolution: VGA

Do not rely on this rear camera for anything more than telling if it's night or day.

dirt cheap at 38 bucks, anyone tried that one out?

    • +2

These were selling fast at Aldi when the doors opened this morning.
Some of the options are, show front camera only, front camera with rear camera in the corner or rear camera full screen.
When you plug the rear camera in to see what happens it shows in the corner over the front camera image.
There is a long lead for the rear camera and a red wire to attach to the reverse light wiring.
The mount could be better as screen ends up too far down the window.
The manual says the battery only lasts 10 minutes.

      • All dashcams don’t last long on just internal battery alone. The battery is designed to be a backup in case it loses power from the 12v socket.

  • gonna try it out.

  • I did not find that model neither on Uniden website nor youtube, Why?

  • Is it easy to install this things?
Do u have to drill holes?

    • Not at all, but respectfully, if you ask that, get someone who knows these things to install it for you.

      • My hubby just installed ours into our Nissan Qashqai in about 20-30 minutes. He said it was quite easy and he didn't drill any holes. He ran under the roof trim all the way to the back of the car.

  • So general thoughts. Buy or sink the Aldi cash into a slab of Polish vodka?

  • The instructions refer to the battery lasting 10 minutes without charge, but quite surprised to see it charges via and old USB mini port. Makes me think these are quite an old model. Yet to try them out, not sure if I'll just take it back and not bother.

    • I eagerly await your thoughts on it!

  • +1

waits patiently for someone who bought it to come back and give a review

  • Yeah apparently these sold out in ten mins at my local :/

    • I bought one, front cam is fhd but back cam is 480. the power out doesn't have a spare usb port . not sure if I will return it or not at this point.

      • Is the rear camera useable?

        • Yeah I actually got one at another store I was near, hope this doesn’t mean the rear camera doesn’t feed the main unit?? Ie, they’re both recording at once

  • +6

I bought one. Front video quality not too bad - nice wide lens. Back video quality fairly terrible. Can be used as a reverse camera by wiring into reverse light.

    Front camera example: https://streamable.com/eop9r
Rear camera example: https://streamable.com/qjg5t - I have the camera mounted inside the car, it might be clearer if mounted outside.

Not bad for $80. Aldi site mentions Forward Collision Warning System but I can't see this mentioned anywhere in the manual or box.

This Kogan one looks exactly the same: https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/4-inch-1296p-dual-camera-dash-c…

    • +1

Great stuff thanks for that. You’re right the rear footage is pretty bad lol. Might give this a swerve!

    • Hi Mate, just to know what size of SDHC card you are using, the manual says max 32GB, with the dual camera I thought it should need a lot more storage for decent amount of recording. Also any comment about the brand or type of SDHC card would be really appreciated.
