    Shame it tastes like arse

    • +42

I haven't tasted an arse, but will take your word for it

      • +7

If you've ever had a meat pie you probably have.

        • I wonder how the missus will feel about bringing some melted cheese next time

Classic mittel-European Pilsner. I have to question your taste. But then, I too admit to being unfamiliar with arse.

    • +9

It's actually not a bad beer, especially at this price.

    • +2

After growing up in Europe, I can confidently say that this is one of the lowest quality and watery beer you can buy around Austria/Germany region. When I was 16 (legal drinking age in Germany), this was perfect on a budget though.

    • +1

Can confirm, was all over this when i was 18 (i think it was $20 a carton) they couldn't give the stuff away.

  • +6

I swear this used to be the normal price a while back and it's crept up a lot

    • +1

You're right, this used to be about the standard price (it was $29 when I worked at Dan's years ago). But you have to remember that the alcohol tax goes up about every 6 months. And over the last few years it has significantly increased.

    Looks like $33.90 in NSW.

Last time I bought this, it was so heavily carbonated the bottles would overflow as soon as I opened them.

    Good price for 4.7% though.

Bought it. Picked up in store and just after 2 down i am Loving it…

      You alcoholic 😋

      • An alcoholic woild drink 10

        • I think 10 on a regular basis would mean hospital 🏥

    The Aldi of beer.

Very drinkable at the price, but usually the 500ml cans are better value.

      Holden Commodore in a bottle..

    • +2

Must admit, after buying a carton of the 500ml cans recently I hated the flavour after drinking the first from the can. But…

once I started drinking them from a chilled pint/stein, they really grew on me.

      • Have been doing the same with VB. Tastes so much better from a glass

I lived in Germany and bought this. I was told by Germans “you’re drinking homeless person beer”.

I still think it tasted fine. I love craft beers but Australian domestic beers are worse than Oettinger.

I used to drink this regularly before I converted. Nothing wrong with the beer.

    • +8

      Was the conversion expensive?

Did you get it done in Thailand?

  • Had it once never again, cheap for a reason

    • Non member price is $38.99…

  • Much better than the discount PBR I’m winning on the BWS app!

  • …rather spend $10 more and get something a little 'better'

  • +3

This is literally the cheapest beer you can buy in Europe.

    • +2

      Still better than Budweiser

      • Budweiser means Budweiser Budvar in Europe and it is actually a pretty decent beer.

    • I doubt that, both literally and figuratively speaking. Taste is subjective but it's still far better beer than the ubiquitous Heineken (lager) some people love. Somewhat surprisingly (to me) Oettinger Pils rates 3.5 stars on beeradvocate. Somewhat bitter aftertaste from memory.

      • It rates 6% on Ratebeer lol

        • +2

Oett Pils is 2.37/5 on ratebeer. Top beers rated are ~4.5. For perspective, Urquell is top-rated Pils at 3.95 if you follow beer ratings (I don't, it's pointless). I prefer the taste of Urquell but I found it relatively underwhelming compared to the general consensus.

  • Also great for cooking with in a slow cooker

    Tastes like dogs balls

    • +3

you should probably stop doing that as you may start a new world wide spreading virus

      • Plus it's almost certainly illegal (assuming the 🐕 is still attached).

    • I don't even want to know how you'd know this 🤢

    • After the dogs been out at Ambar or Revs all night…

  • +1

Have tried it in the can and it tastes great, are they better or worse in the bottles?

    • …probably identically terrible

    • Cans keep better than bottles

    • +1

I usually prefer cans, because they are usually fresher, but for this beer the bottles taste much better.
Give it a try, not much to lose at this price anyway.

  • Agree with above comments that mention it tastes gross. Disgusting beer.

  • Hollandia same price but much better beer.

  • This beer is the worst. Sub $30 a carton was the standard price a couple years back.
