I think a larger, ergonomic mouse is significantly better than a cheaper version if you’re at a computer all day.

      • This. Ergonomics and comfort are important for something you use extensively. I have a bunch of compact mice but only pack them for travel, never use them at home.

    • +2

      Too tiny.

      • -4

Really? I have big hands, and find it just right.
Have been using mice since they cost serious money, and either had balls, or used a special mat.

        • +1

I've even been advised by the doc not to use tiny mice like that due to muscle strain issues.

My father (who I care for and has the same doc) was concerned about him having one of those as he gets dialysis 3x a week, while on the machine he likes to have a laptop taken in with movies and can only use one arm due to the process.

He used to swear by one of the logitech tiny mice until his arthritis and muscle strain got a lot worse, we've got him an mx master 2s and he's found it extremely comfortable, portable and not too hard on his arthritis.

I take mine along when I stay with him and need to get some work done on my laptop or play some video games and found the master 2s extremely portable, comfortable and surprisingly good for gaming.

Even found on days I take my ps4 in, it's also supported by the latest call of duty and is very good for playing it with even on a ps4, however you'd want to have a portal keyboard or tacpad with you for that.

I have big hands, and find it just right.

Have you used a MX Master 2S before?

          • -4

@ShortyX: No, so I'm quite willing to listen. But there is nothing in the sales blurb, aside from glass surface, that does not apply to others.
I mean, it is just a mouse. It's not going to make my coffee. But both are smooth and responsive, and do bluetooth and Unified.

            • +3

@bargaino: It seems you're willing to die on this sword but the comfort level difference between a compact M585 and an MX Master are significant. It depends on the use case scenario and each individual's hand size/feeling etc but to say there's no difference and 'a mouse is a mouse' is objectively incorrect.

This is a good price for a great mouse. The MX Master 3 is slightly better though all round but may not be worth the extra 50% cost.

              • -6

@Hybroid: Nah, but it makes a change from telling Mac fanbois that PCs are now better, or Macs have improved since Jony Ive left :-)
The anonymous fanbois are really out in force here.

                • @bargaino: Well that's just pathetic. But you do you. Good luck.

                  • -1

@Hybroid: Oh don't be so hurt. Can't you tell when I moved from sincere to tongue-in-cheek?
All the Logitech mice are great, despite their varying levels of functionality.
And we are only taking an extra $50 for the Master Blaster 2X max turbo. No big deal I guess.
At least nobody said "ok boomer" :-)

Some of their cheap keyboards on the other hand …

                    • +1

@bargaino: FWIW I work longish hours in IT and have tried a variety of mice.. Upgraded from a standard Logitech to a spare Razer gaming mouse I had lying around and found it a massive improvement. Nowhere near as big a jump, however, as moving from that to an original MX Master. Comfort and quality is dramatically better than anything else I've tried, hand feels way better at the end of the day.

    • As much as love my cheaper logitechs, I love this one more, but it a bit too big for my hands. And the cheapie one I had for 5+ years was so small, I used to have a claw grip. None the less, there are different kind of uses for both. If you're just playing a solitaire I doubt it matters :p

    • +1

Yep, having to charge them is annoying. It seems to need charging way too often. I switched to a cheapy, battery-powered wireless mouse and so far haven't considered going back.

      • I have one of these mice and use it 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. It needs recharging about every 3 months, and it's as simple as using it for a couple of hours with the USB charging cable plugged in (or just leave it overnight plugged in)

        • +1

He did not say it was a real problem, just an unnecessary annoyance.

  • +6

    Love this mouse! Definitely recommend!

  • Any major difference between this and the MX master 3?

    • Not worth the price difference. Unless you must have usb c

    • type c

and the shape of the Master 3 is REAL strange to me.

Logitech MX Master 3 vs MX Master 2S

    • +4

MX Master 3 finally has two standard side buttons compared to the weird position of the 2 side buttons squashed in next to the horizontal scroll wheel of the 2S.

      • +3

I guess that's subjective. I'd rather have the two side button on top of each other rather than one behind the other - it requires less movement of my thumb.

    • +6
      • New electromagnetic scrollwheel (compared to mechanical on the 2S, the new one is quieter and may be more reliable)
      • USB C over micro USB
      • Better side button position and much chunkier side scrollwheel
      • About 60 dollars more expensive than this
      • -1

Almost twice the price, I got this last time it was at this price pre xmas, best mouse ive owned.

        • Thinking of getting the MX Master 3. Are the thumb wheel clickable and customisable?

          • @No Username: Customisable in terms of scrolling but not clickable.

  • +2

Use one for work. Great mouse, highly recommended.

  • I wonder how long does it take for Amazon to match or beat the price. I think last time they matched the $74 from HN.

  • good mouse, except the common flaw with the ratchet mouse wheel.

    • +1

What about the common issue with all Logitech mice where the button springs wear out and they start double-clicking all the time?

      • I own an MX5000 (the forerunner of the Master in terms of shape) - it's still my favourite Logitech mouse.

But it's buried in the drawer, awaiting a new microswitch, which I bought from eBay but have never got around to replacing. A shame, I'd been through 2 batteries, and about 7 years use before the randomness of it became too much.

        • I have Performance MX, which I think came between yours and the master range and it has just this week started playing up after what is nearly 6 years, clicking when I haven't pressed the button, etc. I've cleaned with ethanol etc but no luck. I've been looking for a reason to upgrade to get the sidewheel for a while now, so maybe this is the perfect excuse. Everything I own is now on USB C though, making the MXM3 more attractive if not for price. Kinda hoping for a sub $100 MXM3 deal.

  • I bought one for use with a surface. I actually much prefer the older model(S?). Really don't like the back and fwd buttons.

I use a 903 from memory as a daily and don't mind it at all.

  • +1

    Great price.
I've been using my MX Master 2S for ~3-4 years now. Had the original MX master before getting this as an "upgrade".
Just funnily enough, my 2S started playing up this past week, and then stopped working 2 days ago.
I googled and saw this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZDHFJEgyiM

I opened it up and backed off the screws per the video and it fixed mine (YMMV).
However, I will look at getting the Master 3 or a Razer Basilisk (when they go on sale).

    • Warranty problems with Logitech? Definitely get on contact with them, they are very customer focused

  • -1

mx master 3 normally goes on special for $99 doesn't it

polling rate on these mice is s-house. they don't even disclose polling rate on master 3

    • +3

It's not intended as a gaming mouse, so polling rate is relatively low. Logitech sells a wide variety of "G" gaming mice with gaming-centric features, if that's your primary usage.

This mouse's features area aimed at the professional market, where it's considered to be one of the very best available.

  • why this post is so good? it doesn't look cheap at all

    • +6

It's a low price (normally $110+) for what's widely considered to be the best non-gaming mice ever made.

      • oh I just noticed this item is weirdly expensive only in Australia

    • i paid $65 for mine a year ago when ebay still did deals.

  • This is a really great mouse, amazing work flow across computers. Made life so easy at work

  • One thing to note: it’s only a 1 year warranty for this mouse.
As opposed to some of their similarly priced gaming mice that have a 2 year warranty.

  • Great mouse. I use this in conjunction with the mx keys keyboard for work.

  • +1

MX Anywhere 2S is for $58 - amazing price.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/logitech-mx-anywhere-2s-w…

  • Note that the cursor lag is very noticeable. I thought I could use this mouse for occasional gaming, but it's absolutely unusable for anything remotely requiring quick mouse movements. I ended up giving it away and getting a cheap wired gaming mouse.

  • Using this mouse right now and it's great for anything non-gaming. Yeah, it's just a mouse, but I haven't found a mouse that is Bluetooth, full sized and good ergonomics with decent amount of buttons for around $80. Anything better is in the gaming mouse sector that cost way more.

Or you could get one of these which is a blatant ripoff of the MX Master 1/2S.

  • +2

I asked at JB and they got it down to $75.

  • Anyone else have difficulty using these on desktops yet find they are working well on laptops?
