Vodafone Roaming in Bali

I’m travelling to Bali in March, I plan on using $5 days with Vodafone for roaming. Has anyone had any experience with the local networks that Vodaphone use? Good or Bad.

Thanks in advance.

  • No idea. I was there for a couple weeks and a 30 day sim was only like $20 aud. That may be a better option for you.

I’ve done this before and was good option, but this is not suitable this time. Need my number and to be able to receive 2FA SMS.

If you just want to receive text messages ONLY, as in no phone calls etc, then this is 'free' while roaming.

You only pay for making OR receiving calls, and sending SMS/MMS and data usage.

I always buy a local SIM, but if needed pop my aussie SIM in to get text messages etc.

I’ve done this before and it was fine because I didn’t require calls as I was only there for 5 nights, this time I’m there longer and need incoming and outgoing calls.

I’m happy with my choice, I’m just looking for some input from people that have used the Vodafone $5 per day.

This way I can use my pooled data as well.

Then it is what it is, you can't change the service provider that vodafone uses.

  • Never used it in Bali, but used in Phils. Used 58GB of Data in 2 weeks. Local SIM is always cheaper but couldn't find one with lots of Data on it.

  • I have over 150GB of data to use with Vodafone which I can use while roaming. Not concerned about using too much data.

    • If money isn't an Issue - just do Roaming for the whole trip and see how it goes and buy local SIM if unusable

      • I was hoping someone had used the local carriers over there that Voda use. Apparently there are a couple that work.

        • Well at least you can try it for a day and let everyone else know

          • @BLAIL: Vodafone used to have a list of their overseas local carriers per county but I can’t find it anywhere. I checked coverage maps for Bali and apparently Telkomsel appears to have the best coverage. I just don’t know if that’s one of the carriers that Vodafone has a deal with. Happy to report my findings.

  • If you are happy with your choice to pay $5 a day then go for it, but I thought I would let you know that I have been overseas for 2 months now and have been receiving incoming calls and making outgoing calls from my Australian mobile number and the total I have paid is $9 + cost for local sim.
