Graphics card recommendation

Hi all, I've about got all my parts for my new gaming / video editing build except the video card.

Currently: R5 3600, 16gb 3200 ram corsair, b450 max, 650w PSU seasonic.

I've been considering the 5700 xt and 2070 super but have two questions:
1) I hear amd are about to release a new card shortly - whether its better performance for the same price or drives down the 5700 xt price - it seems like it's worth waiting, but I've got no idea when you expect. Any ideas for when the changes above would take place in the Australian market?
2) I've heard the 5700 xt and 2070 super maybe overkill for the class of CPU. Is the R5 3600 a bottleneck or is it just about price mismatch between mid range CPU and high end graphics. One post suggested a 1660 would be better suited.

Thanks all!

    What's your budget?

    What budget?
    What games are you playing?
    What monitor/resolution and frames?

    • Sssssshhh, not allowed to ask obvious questions like that around here

it seems like it's worth waiting

If you keep waiting, you'll wait forever new stuff coming out all the time. The release you're thinking about is nvidia 3000 series or amd big navi, both out Q3 this year which is still a while away not worth waiting.

    Is the R5 3600 a bottleneck

No, all cards are 'suitable' for the CPU, it all comes down to what games you play, the level of graphics you want in games, your budget and your monitor.

  • I'm still using my GTX 1080 from 2016 and it's still doing a great job running most games i play at around 4K 60FPS High/Ultra Settings.
It is pretty similar to the 5700 XT but is maybe 10-15% slower than the 2070 Super - Both are good cards, i reckon you can't go wrong either way!

  • Sorry guys - major omission on my part for the obvious details: budget is upto $700, 27" screen at 1440p and full gamut of games fps to arpg.

I guess one other consideration would be video encoding performance if it at all has anything to do with video card

  • No modern CPU will bottleneck even a 2080Ti. A 2070 sounds perfect for what you're doing, and I've read that nvidia cards do better with encoding when gpu enabled encoding is used.

    Buying now, 2070 super.

There's a silly idea floating around that you should "balance" GPU and CPU even though that will just lead to a slower computer in most gaming scenarios. The GPU is usually the bottleneck.

A scenario where it may be faster is very high fps, with a graphically less intense game, but I would only suggest this if you have a certain game in mind where this is the case.
