How to have an idea (business concept) produced/created?

Hi all - hoping to get some advice outside of google.
A friend and I have a few ideas that we want to explore - creating a product (likely made out of durable and eco friendly materials) with the intent to ‘mass produce’ and sell online.

How do people start this process? We have a few mock ups/prototypes drawn out… but would love to engage someone that could help us ‘create’ it and bring it to life.

From what I’ve read.. a lot of people have success by having networks of people that can help - we are very limited in our network and don’t have a whole heap to reach out to in that area.

I know it’s very naive to not share what the idea is, but more or less, think something that functions like a small sanitary bathroom bin (if that makes sense?).

Would love input/past experience on what to do… thanks OzB

3d print a couple of prototypes, then start a kickstarter.
When have sold 10,000 you can get a manufacturer to tool up and make them for you.
Once the tool mould is made, you can order another 10,000 much cheaper and work on distributing them.

    • Thanks for the advice - quite interesting, I know a few people with a 3D printer.. thanks again

    • +1 for Kickstarter; I was going to suggest that as well

    • Always reminds of Fidgetcube, Stickbox et al, which were mass-produced in China faster than you could blink.

      • Yes, but I think if you fly a bit lower you are unlikely to get intense copying.
There is scope to make a successful business that isn't worth ripping off due to the cost of tooling, marketing, etc.

Do you have a patent? If not, apply ASAP

    • no we don’t, we unsure on how ‘unique’ the idea is… however likely shouldn’t risk it. I’ll check it out, thank you

    What's your idea?

OP, do not reply to this comment until you have a patent.

What's a patent going to do?

        • Cost a lot to ineffectively defend?

        • +1

          It’s better than no patent.

I ignored the comment - no need for me to share it online. Thank you though

  • I have done 3 successful Kickstarter, if you need to ask anything, just shoot.

Did you ever deliver the products, or just take people's money like the rest of them?

      • +2

        All 3 projects delivered.

Congrats! That's pretty cool, for you and the backers.

    • how many of the product has been discontinued?

      • +1

        One is discontinued.

        Product A
After founder and I left the company, new people took over and now the company is defunct.

        Product B
Sold the product and company to an American company and the product is still current.

        Product C
Still owning and manufacturing the product.

    • Would you consider doing an AMA?
