Uber Eats: Same Order, Same Address, Different Price/Delivery Fee??

Just went to order Uber Eats. Wife was also browsing menu next to me..

Had exactly the same items in cart delivering to the same address, price discrepancy $36 vs $33.50, and delivery fee $4.99 vs $3.99.

Totals $40.99 vs $37.49

Anyone experienced the same?

  • Did you click through Shopback or Cashrewards? They charge more if you do.

    • Nope, no cash back, no coupons..

i also noticed this when a friend and i compared our Ubereats app.

to the same address my delivery fee was always cheaper then his… we still dont't know why

My guess is uber algorithms tell them your friend is willing to pay more, so they charge it.

I’m wondering, does your friend use Uber and Ubereats more than you?

yes he uses it every week, i use it very sparingly (maybe once a month)…

        so that could be true

  • I reckon it uses some sort of algorithm and depends on drivers available etc. I've noticed mine have gone up lately, but during the storm it specifically used 7.99 I think with a note saying "prices have increased as there aren't many drivers around". I do wonder if the restaurants have a say in it?

The delivery fee may increase when they're busy, but the other prices are probably a bit of a reverse customer acquisition strategy. Instead of discounts for customers to try the service more, raised prices for those that are hooked.

  • No OP, as the horde proved in the thread 2 days ago you cannot, should not and must not question Uber eats prices. They are above questioning, even for diehard OzB users. /s

    • So you question when eBay gives people who haven't sold something in ages, an offer for no final value fee? Or Netflix gives a 3 month free offer for new subscribers?

      • Welcome old mate… thanks for confirming. "Though shalt not question Uber Eats pricing". 3rd commandment of OzB.

But seriously, I find it very odd that you are posting on a deal website that people should never question prices. Just bizarre.

        • I don't even use uber eats. Never used it in my life. There is nothing wrong with questioning prices, buy where do you think it's going to get you in a basically monopoly market? Same with eBay, if I ask them why final value fees are 10%, then they will tell me it that it is what it is, and to use another service if I don't like it.

When there is competition you have power, in a monopoly your only option to show that you dislike the price, is to not use the service.

          • @brendanm: I'm glad people are highlighting these pricing discrepancies because I guess many users would perhaps naively assume that if you're ordering the same thing, from the same restaurant, at the same address, and the same time of day that the price would be the same unless you are using a coupon code or introductory offer.

            • @lunchbox99: If they don't have someone else nearby they don't have a choice of price anyway. At the end of the day, if you are happy with the price that you are given to have your dinner delivered, pay it. If you aren't happy with the price, dont pay it.
