the reviewers here all share your dismay: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_56169/beck-s-beer-3…

Wow, so many people not happy with the new brew, much lass flavour and also less alcohol %.

Fully agree with this comment/review on Dans:

As a loyal supporter of Becks beer for 10 years, i cant believe that the formula has been changed, not only has there been a reduction in alcohol, but more importantly the taste … it is now very bland, and lost the flavour it once had …. seems like i now need to find myself another beer of choice, as i just my purchased my last slab of Becks. … how disappointing

        • When did CUB pick up Becks? Can only put it down to the change in local licencing at wanting to reduce the alcohol to pay less tax on it

          • @dmouse81: Partly, and partly just watering it down to maximize profits. Breweries have been doing this for decades, especially after WW2 with US influence on the world.

Beck’s you have brocken my heart, and destroyed your legacy as being one of the finest German beers. Reverse your short sighted decision, and return the alcohol content to 5% Alc/Vol. I like many others will no longer purchase Beck’s. Please return Beck’s to its rightful place as a full strength wonderful beer.

    • Halleluja! ( had to spell-check that one lol.

      Not till you're fifteen.

Seriously though, the reviews of the new Becks are all dreadful. Not a single person said the new Becks is drinkable. That's a great shame, as it used to be one of my favourite beers, too. All good things…

    Always hated becks….just terrible stuff…imo

  • 4%?!…. Farewell sweet prince.

What a disappointing thing to hear. It was a great beer.

  • $34 at Costco

  • Sweet, a discount on 1 case of Corona. Can cancel my tickets to Wuhan now.

  • OK people, here is a solution to this "Becks Disappointment"

If you live near an Aldi that sells alcohol ( sorry Qld except for South Gold Coast as they can duck down to Tweed Heads lol ), do yourself a favor and buy some Leo Larger $18.99/12x330ml. ( brewed in Thailand ) and/or some Sainte Etienne Premium Larger ( brewed in France ) $8.99/6x330ml./32.99/24x330ml.

Just at a rough stab, Becks old 5% brew is kind of in the middle of these two, I like(d) all three, and in summer on hot days like more refreshing icy cold beer, so the old Becks and Leo are great, not so hot then I prefer the Saint Etienne ( my old stayer faithful beer lately ). These are both 4.9%-5% alcohol and definitely great value.

If you prefer something more fruity, then try the North of Nowhere, like a very mild Australian Pacific Ale $18.99/12x330ml. ( 4.7% ) that's goes down well cold on a hot day.

Now for something even more fruity, the Pear Cider they sell is good too called Devils Orchird Pear Cider $9.99/6x330ml. ( 4.5% ).

    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/liquor/beer-cider/?pk_campaign=Liquor_Brand_bmm%20(BMM)&pk_kwd=+ALDI+beer&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3u7OkLrT5wIVVqWWCh19JwfbEAAYASAAEgJLnfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

P.S. I am not associated with Aldi, I just love decent quality at a great price as I get pretty thirst sometimes lol.

    • north of nowhere tastes like metal and bubble gum

      • Agree it's not the best beer in the world, everyone got different tast, not bad really cold for the price for me.

  • just be aware that it's like 2 months away from use by date with this seller.

Not the last 4 X cases of Hoogarden and Leffe Blond I ordered from CUB eBay last 4 months, all had at least 6-10months BB.

      • i got Budweiser and apple cider, both had 2 months

        • Oh well, drinking a case in 8 weeks is a good problem to have. I'm sure you could go over a week or two if in slow drinking mood.

@ozhunter68: yea. but this could be disclosed at point of sale.
that would be the honest thing to do.

the items look very attractive, delivered to your door, but it's kinda Reject Shop material

            • @Nilfunds: I understand your point, bit sneaky and unethical not to disclose.

Don't forget it's a BB date only, and most beers if stored correctly will last far beyond BB, six months or longer for most beers, unfortunately due to addition of preservatives and additives.

I suppose they figure it's not against the law, and they easily sell it at that price, so a win win for the budget minded like me.

How did the Bud and cider taste?

              • @ozhunter68: yea. no complaints.
                at that price delivered.
i mean Bud is always good. i got it before xmas more to gift 6 packs

the cider despite love/hate reviews is good stuff, crispy and buzzy :) and was dirt cheap, like $36 or something.

but yea. one shouldn't stock up too much on these sales

                • @Nilfunds: True. What brand cider was it?

I bought an Expensive English Vintage Apple Cider not long ago and not my style.

For me ciders are nicest fresh and crispy cold, especially in our hot summers when many people buy ciders.
