HP update to boost TouchPad 'functionality'

  • There was something posted on here by one of the Retailer's Reps last week, although I think they wanted $250 for a 16GB

    • Mobicity.

I reckon if HP wanna sell more, just sell the existed stock. No way could they sell at a price more than 149 for a 16GB model. 200 for one is still cheap I daresay, but with the 99 buck precedent…

  • They're just using up their remaining stock components, not ressurecting the product.

On the flip side, they might be pulling a fast one on everyone and mass selling the tablets to get webOS off the ground, and then capitalising on that by releasing phones/more tabs on the OS ecosystem people have gotten used to, but thats like a 0.01% likelihood.

HP are idiots, all they will be doing is allowing eBay/dodgy sellers to make another small fortune off the back of these, thats even after the whole HP microserver debacle a few months back. eBay scalpers etc must love HP right now.

Why not price them at $149/199, even $199/249 would still be undercutting eBay et al. That would stop the scalping, so that they will get into end users hands for decent prices, to generate the maximum goodwill possible.

Strange, strange way to run a business HP.

      Yes like this guy: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-TOUCHPAD-/300592075727?pt=AU_T…

Funny how much people will pay for an end of life, non supported product. especially a brand with one of the worst reputations in the market. I didnt even think this was a bargain @99, purely for the fact of the lack of support, even the mytab has support/updates etc.

You realise that most people are banking on a port over to andriod, which would combine the strong hardware specs with the droid app ecosystem.

Yes i do, and best of luck to those people i hope it becomes a reality

        • @Ambiguous, it's not just the immediate banking on a port; which ipso facto is problematic as it's entirely subject to the unpaid volunteer efforts of the developer community; but it's going to be the ongoing need for/potential lack of support as the already EOL hardware ages & community interest wanes.

If I had a buck for every bit of hardware I've thrown away because it no longer had manufacturer or community support I'd be posting over on OzSpendThrift.com! ;)

        • I may be wrong, but HP intends to update the OS at least for a while

          http://www.itproportal.com/2011/08/31/hp-continue-support-to…

IMHO, it is a good deal even at 250 for an average user who just used the browser and skype.

An excellent device for $250, dont you think?

        • Yeah, I read that too glitchx; never forget this is HP you're talking about; believe it when you've got the update installed! If HP was fair-dinkum about ongoing support they'd get behind an official Android port! ;)

      • And that my friend, are what douchebags are all about.
