If that description is anything to go by, I suspect this book is poorly written.

"All the secrets" except a vaccine

Coronavirus is that the word that's one each one's lips right now

    Coronavirus is a tangle

It is concerning how badly written this is considering the topic it is discussing. It is as though the blurb is the end result from a bad Google translation

    • If thats legit the user should be reported, thats crazy haha

    • "Cheerful perusing!"

Enjoy this book about a 'new flu' epidemic, you'll have a great time ><

    • Absurd a reviewer said they used their knowledge from reading this book to educate health professionals.

    • The first half of the book seems to be a collection of believable / practical advice for hygiene (all stuff you've heard before on WHO / news sites) but the book suddenly goes completely off topic midway:

The weirdness starts here (bullet points on current events, closures of schools and factories)

then a whole lot of run-on sentences about intellectual property theft??

  • It's just the common flu. 10,000 die in the USA bcoz of the flu -Wumao

    • Not quite. It's a pneumonia causing flu, which makes it a little bit more serious than the flu. Provided you are not elderly or immunocompromised you shouldn't die from the disease.

      • WHO state Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases

What is now commonly referred to as "Coronavirus" is a novel variant, COVID-19.

        • WHO also states that no trade and travel restrictions should be implemented.

          ROFL

          • @Turd: We are 1 of only 6 countries to have banned all recent travelers from China. The rest of the world sees wisdom in the advice from the WHO.

That was a very political move by the Australian Government, against medical & other advice by WHO. I wonder why?

Time will tell if it was a major political overreaction, costing us a fortune.

And no need to be bothered by not being in surplus this year! The world provided an excuse - so use it😉

Use the usual "We won't be told by the UN what we do in our country!". Pauline & Co will be celebrating!

            Very convenient for the Government!
If you're seen as failing with other recent political problems & natural disasters - look strong on this by creating Fortress Australia - keeps the unnecessarily fearful voters happy! No one will ask awkward questions about climate change etc!

            Classic distraction.

Where are the usual & absolutely necessary public health campaigns telling us there is little to worry about, that it is likely more die each year here from seasonal flu, so adopt good personal hygiene (like scrubbing your hands & not touching your face if possible). But that would not distract from the Government's problems - so it's not happening!!

Possibly handy for the Right that the problem originated in China. Can be seen as taking a stand against China, without upsetting trade too much. Doubt we would be closing the border to good white folk if the virus originated in Western Europe or USA!

Plus it justifies the massive pre-election spending preparing Christmas Island detention center for all those irregular boat arrivals we were told would arrive after the Government lost the vote on medical evacuations from off-shore detention.

Scomo & co must be so happy politically, this came along at the right time! That's the role of Distractions!

And today's new threat is the online community - requiring a massive expansion in surveillance of Australians under Peter Dutton! Now where was that covered up before - with a raid on News Ltd journalist's underwater drawer??

Fear is good for Governments to push through repressive legislation with little scrutiny!!
I've seen it so many times before.

Got to see the bigger picture & who it benefits😉

            • @INFIDEL: 2 days ago South Korea had 21 cases now they have 82 cases.

              • @Turd: I was in SK during the H1N1 virus outbreak. Locals accused Foreigners like myself for making locals sick. That wasn't the likely origin in the country, but likely locals returning from overseas with the virus.

21 cases now they have 82 cases
                - the cases were there, it takes time to confirm! So not a rapid escalation.

Half the SK cases stem from 1 women in a church in Daegu. The woman first developed a fever on Feb 10 but reportedly twice refused to be tested for the coronavirus on the grounds that she had not recently travelled abroad, and attended at least four services before being diagnosed.

1,001 Shincheonji members in the city, all of whom had been asked to self-quarantine, with 90 of them currently showing symptoms. Testing is ongoing, so numbers are likely to rapidly rise as testing continues.

Daegu is the traditional medicine centre of SK (I've attended the festival there).
Spread is likely due to the usual reasons - poor hygiene & attitudes. My impression was many have a very different concept of illness in that city. Guess, the religious belief & ceremonies also may have contributed to the spread.

You just can't compare between countries.
Spread is a lot to do with culture (attitudes to hygiene, quarantining, etc), & close contact with others with the virus.

                • @INFIDEL: 37 of the 82 virus cases in South Korea went to the same church.

                  • @Turd: As I commented. That number is likely to increase as 90 more from the church are sick in self quarantine..
                    Possibly a case of a "super-spreader"!

                    Very sad.

South Korea has also discharged 16 patients since the outbreak, citing a "full recovery."

                • +1

@INFIDEL: Hope all is well, we can sing happy songs like they do in China!

                  • @Turd: I've seen that during the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China - lots of propaganda after 80K people died. I was 250Km from the epicenter when it struck.

Emphasis was on showing the Government was in control. A week later a sms circulated that there was going to be another earthquake. There was panic. People believed the rumour, facts didn't matter!

                    • @INFIDEL: damm

well Monday everyone in China go back to work. We'll see..

China reported only 45 cases (the lowest) since Feb! WOW AMAZING!

                      • @Turd: We hope politics don't dictate the numbers… WHO seem ok with previous reports.

In the disastrous earthquake I was in, the official figures at the start were 4 dead. As it was just before the Beijing Olympics, the internet was open for the first time. There were horrific reports direct from areas affected, reported on the BBC. Final estimate was 80,000!

That figure puts this virus into some perspective.

It's the fear & uncertainty of the virus that troubles most. But there are simply hygiene measures (washing hands thoroughly, etc) that can be taken to limit it's spread. And seek medical attention ASAP if feeling unwell.

(The Shincheonji Church of Jesus, an entity often accused of being a cult
My hunch: A strong belief in God curing their illness may have stopped people getting early medical tests in the case of the viral outbreak at the church. I'm sure this will be investigated.)

When an earthquake hits - it's sudden, there are scary aftershocks, then the long searching for bodies, & recovery.
There is little time for fear - I ran out of my building to the local park for safety.

                • @Turd: My Hangul isn't up to that & Google translate is too slow. Luckily there is plenty on this in the English language media.

                  • @INFIDEL: South Korea reports 1st death from coronavirus - Yonhap

                    • @Turd: Considering the number who die each year from seasonal influenza, it is still a very low number.
Seasonal flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide each year!

In the H1N1 pandemic, a study estimated a range between 151,700 and 575,400 deaths.
I was in S Korea during that. Some Koreans blockaded accommodation for Foreigners, believing we were responsible for the virus. It was sometimes unpleasant.

Only 10 have died outside of China, with 2 of those on the cruise ship in Japan. Most would have had vulnerable health conditions. Of course deaths & confirmed cases in China are terrible.

(More have died in a single Australian nursing home in a single flu incident, than all deaths outside China so far! Did we panic??)

As a recent carer for an elderly relative, I had to take precautions each flu season (flu shot, practice safe hygiene, wear a mask if likely to cough or stay away). A simple mistake could lead to death!

The church, The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, has been described in the media as a cult - which usually means a fairly closed community with strict restrictions on behaviours.

If that is correct, it makes it a good place for a virus to spread, but also may restrict it's spread outside the 1000+ members.

The mayor of Daegu is closing preschools etc. Members of the church are in self-quarantine.

The person at the center of the church outbreak claims not to have travelled outside S. Korea. She refused earlier testing & attended church services of up to 1000. Worrying 1 person can be responsible for most of those succumbing to the virus in SK!

So refusing to admit people from China may not block a very serious viral outbreak like in Daegu!

But compared with normal flu deaths, it might seem people are overreacting.

                      • @INFIDEL: Yep it's just like the common flu.

                        Dot slash s

                      • @INFIDEL: Don't forget numbers outside hubei in China are at it's lowest ever. They doing such a great job fight the virus with love and harmony.

      It's just the common flu.

It's contagious long before symptoms appear, unlike the flu, and the mortality rate is greater than the flu.

Sadly, they were one of the coronavirus deaths earlier this month.

  • If you click on the names of users who left a review for this book (all with no profile picture) you will see all these fake reviewers have left a review for the same eBooks.

  • If you want a good 5 min summary, North Korean state TV put out a decent video, funnily enough.

    • Good work NK!
