Seiko Astron SSE169J GPS Solar Watch $1999 (Was $2999) @ Starbuy

150

Astron is the first watch to automatically recognize all time zones on Earth. At last a watch that adjusts to your time zone.

Seiko Astron SSE169J Solar GPS automatically adjusts to the local time. With the touch of a single button, Astron adjusts to the correct local time everywhere on the planet. Daylight saving time does require a manual adjustment.

Always accurate. Seiko Astron is accurate to one second every 100,000 years, thanks to the time signal it receives from the Atomic Clocks in each GPS satellite.

Astron never stops. Astron receives all the power it needs from light absorbed through the dial. Not just sunlight, it is able to use all kinds of light, and store excess energy it produces in a power reserve whose charge level is indicated on the dial.

Astron remains accurate, even on the move. Astron receives GPS signals even when the wearer is walking or in a vehicle. If you can see the sky, Astron will tell the exact local time, even as you move across borders.

Calendar correction is automatic. Astron has a perpetual calendar that will not need to be manually corrected until February 28, 2100.

I let my phone tell me the current time zone and my watch tells me my time back home. Purchase averted, phew!

  • "Daylight saving time does require a manual adjustment." So if I fly into a place that either has daylight savings or has not I'm still potentially +/- 1 hour out from the local time with no way of telling without checking a local time reference ? No thanks.

This. For $1999, I’d prefer zero manual adjustment. I don’t mind the press of a button bit

  • hmmm, I fly intergalactically quite often, need time zones for the entire universe. let me know when this feature is available. otherwise, still pretty essential buying at 2 thousand dollars, will look great next to my Mont Blanc fountain pen.

Space-time is relative to your velocity and so time zones are meaningless when your travel intergalactically. The in-flight safety video should have mentioned it. Please pay attention next time.

      • 'safety videos' on an intergalactic spacecraft? Didn't notice a VHS player on board, do you fly Tiger?

  • Thanks OP got 2 Cheers

RRP is $4,100. It's a new release model too. What sort of moron would bay RRP for this watch?

2 grand for a Seiko hahahaha

    • I paid $5000 for Seiko! Footyboy. Move on nothing to see here!

Yep. Grand Seikos are worth it.

          These Astrons no so much.

          • @tonyjzx: Grand Seiko are not Seiko, seperate and different companies!

            • @Tunblor: Are they like Toyota and Lexus? I've always thought of them as one company but you're right, technically they are not

  • No good. In 1,000 years it will be out by 1 second.

Why the f would you pay that much for something that prides itself on accuracy, then doesn't compensate for daylight saving. Better off spending $30 on a miband 4 and having your phone send the exact time from atomic clocks, automatically (including daylight savings).

At least it holds it's value like a holden automobile.

At that price I can afford one for all three arms! Thanks OP!

  • Clearly this is not for everyone. I might be interested but there's only a single pic (of the watch face). I'd like to see 360 degrees before I parted with that sort of cash.

Also it states there a 4 (5 star) reviews but all are generic and don't mention the watch and are dated January, when this is supposedly a new release. Suspect?

There are several other models at the same "reduced" price too if anyone is interested.

  • They couldn't add two lines to the code to say if the year is divisible by 100, it is not a leap year, but if it also divisible by 400, it is?

    • LOL I remember writing a one line "isleap(year)" function in C back in the day.

I think there may be one more condition, but its been a long time.

    Bold claim Seiko.

Especially when Casio has had GPS-powered automatic timekeeping on some of their watches since 1999.

  • Price has gone up to 2999
