[Resolved] Tech Help if Possible - Archer VR2800 Wireless Connection

Hi everyone.

Bought a new WiFi modem yesterday from Officeworks with 5% pricematch (made it ~$260). So far it's up and running on the net just fine and downloads are as good as the old one.

But for the life of my I can't get the WiFi to connect at all. The settings all appear correct. On my phone it's connecting but saying "cannot assign IP address". I can't find literally any setting for DHCP in the VR2800 settings. I've tried both a power reset and even a factory reset. I've also disabled the firewall in the VR2800 and just as a whim turned off all the passwords.

I can even see that it's getting packets and connections. It's clearing "connecting" it's just not assigning an IP and I haven't a foggiest why.

If anyone has any idea why I would be very thankful.

Oh shit isn't it always the way.

No more than 10secs after I posted this I literally answered my own question.

Network -> Lan Settings -> DHCP -> Enabled.

Not sure why it's not enabled by default but… is now.

I'll leave this is for the random person in 6 months time that might have the same problem. :-)

    • Seems a strange setting to have as Off by default.

I guess they assume someone who buys a ~$260 modem will want to assign IP addresses and set the network up completely.

  • Turn the firewall back on.
