Philips Hair Clipper QC5170 - $44 (50% off) at Target

130

If you are in market for a good brand cordless hair clipper/Trimmer. I think, this is a pretty good price for an Australian model (down from $89.95). I know, the price difference may not be that big, when imported from Amazon or some UK sellers. But buying here for the same price gives you the peace of mind for warranty. It has 2 years of global warranty.

( Better call your local store before going. I got the last one from the Campbletown Target)

QC5170. 180 degree pivoting clipper head for maximum reach. 8 hours charging for 60 minutes operation time. 10 adjustable length settings up to 21mm (.826" approx).

    Great clippers…..use mine every week

  • misplaced mine, this will be a good replacement,

edit just wondering do you need to use the levels as i shave on 0?

    • I shave on 0 too…… there are some guard things that you can fit for longer cuts…. I don't use em….. and you can 'dial' the actual blades up or down too.
      0 will get you to a suede-like finish….

  • What is the general construction of the Phillips like? From the Phillips website, looks like a well designed and quality clipper with stainless steel blades.

How does this compare with WAHL which is USA made?

    • WAHL has consumer and professional lines, it depends on how much you want to spend.

  • i used to have a Remington ($25 at Kmart) used it 3times and the blade got blunt already.. still usable but take ages to shave and pulls ur hair, so i bought a WAHL Professional one for $148.. very high price but quality is the best.. it was heavier than the Remington and i used it for over a year already.. and still good.. in longterm i think WAHL is more reliable..

    • Same here. Though mine worked more than 3 times. But after 5-6 times, they started going bad on hairs. Cannot comment on WAHL, as I have not used them.

  • This is not like a wahl professional in terms of build…. and probably power too…..

However…. wahl professional are built for use by hairdressers/friends/significant others and are quite weighty and difficult to use on yourself. These philips clippers are designed to be used to cut your own hair, so they are much lighter, and, because of the rotating head thing, can be used almost as you would use a hairbrush ie blades can be at 90 degrees from the handle. Also rechargeable, so no cord to bother with

I've had these for around 2 years now and they are still going well with weekly use. Would definitely recommend.

I paid around $80 for my clippers, but will pick up another pair tomorrow for when/if my current ones die.

  • Is this a baby friendly one?

    • yes. I read few comments on amazon about it. You can search this product on amazon and read comments.

  • Problem Ive had with cordless clippers is they don't always have enough grunt to cut through hair. Portability is good but.

  • I have WAHL clippers to cut my own hairs, and I struggled with how I hold the clipper when cutting the back of the head, was thinking there should be a clipper with a pivot. And my dream came true, searching on websites I founf this Phillip and I've been using this one since then. My WAHL is kept on dust now and it is no longer working even.

  • Thanks OP! I just picked one up from Target in Melbourne CBD - they are downstairs, over to the right. At least 6 more left on the shelf just after 9am.

    • :). Enjoy your cordless self sharpening stainless blade clipper. They are worth buying.

  • I have been looking at getting a hair clipper and came acroess this Remington pro power cordless one that looks to be at a good discount from Powerbuys. http://www.powerbuys.com.au/remington-professional-hc5810-pr…. Supposed usual sale price of 83.45 and selling for $28 + 10 shipping. But I assume the Philips is a better brand than Remington? Any ony have the Remington model and think it is any good?

    • I am not very big fan of Remington. I had wired one earlier and they were not that great. Blades were not that sharp after 4-5 use. But if u want bigger hairs. This Remington can go up to 30mm ( 21 mm for philips)
The biggest plus for Philips is the pivoting head, by which u can cut ur own hairs.
They are also maintenance free plus better build.

  • Bargain! Reynella SA didn't have any (well, none on display anywhere… searched high and low) but Castle Plaza had about 5 left in the glass cabinet after I just bought one a few minutes ago.
