Good deal. In fact I prefer the 7" size. Much better to hold on one hand. Much more portable as well.

    • yeah it's a good size, you can whip it out and use it wherever

Clearly the joke is lost on some. Note to self: no gay humour.

  • Agree with blackrider89. Thanks for the post OP.

    • My pleasure.

Personally prefer the 10" for only a few dollars more. But good deal nonetheless.

  • Does this 7" have the full size usb and hdmi, like the 10"? Those were some of the key selling points that differentiated the 10" Acer Iconia from the 10" Asus Transformer.

    • Micro usb and micro hdmi.still a good deal but i will take 10" for $41 more and aussie stock.

  • how come its $345 including shipping to australia?

For you 7" fans out there, Samsung just announced their Galaxy Tab 7.7, an awesome 1280x800 7.7" very-black-blacks Super AMOLED Plus (like on the sgs2), at 7.89mm and 335 grams with a 5,100mAh battery.

The downside is it'll cost way more than $345!

The 7" Lenovo Ideapad A1 is quite interesting too, starting at $199:

p.s. the Acer's 1024x600 res might not work well with apps that are designed for 1280x800 honeycomb tablets.

    • 1024x600 shouldn't be a big issue. After all, first gen Samsung Galaxy Tab uses that resolution.

      • +3

The first-gen galaxy tab wasn't running Honeycomb. Seeing that just about every other honeycomb tablet around is at 1280x800, app developers would create UIs for that res.

The mobiletechreview A100 review mentions that the latest Kindle app doesn't work with the A100's 1024x600 resolution, although the older versions do. Just something to keep in mind, although it probably isn't too big a problem.

The original Galaxy Tab running Android 2.2/2.3 had a higher res than the de-facto 800x480 standard so at most, UI elements will be farther apart. This A100 running Honeycomb has a lower res than the de-facto 1280x800 res, so it might have little quirks similar to what Huawei U8150 320x240 users experience with 800x480 apps.

The rumoured price for the Tab 7.7 is US$400 though, so it might be worth holding out if you can wait. It costs a bit more but has a higher resolution OLED screen, finer pixel pitch, larger battery, faster processor, and is slimmer and much lighter. That said, December is quite far away… you all can just get the A100 now and sell it in December!

Read the review of Engadget on this: http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/12/acer-iconia-tab-a100-revi…

One major spec that was not included in the bargain post was that the battery of A100 is a measly 1,530mAh that "that promises up to five hours of juice if you're just doing things over WiFi, and up to four and a half hours of 720p video playback".

A500 is a very good but A100 just does not seem very good. Especially with Galaxy Tab 7.7 out now..

    • +3

Just to be clear, it's a dual-battery system, so there's effectively 3,060mAh of capacity, which is still a bit low. 1,530 is less than my phone! :)

      • Now it makes sense to me. Otherwise I could not understand how a 1530 mAh battery could last that long lol.

  • Slightly off topic, but will the original Galaxy Tab ever get Honeycomb?

    • Can't see this happen consider we are still waiting on the official Aussie Gingerbread,
or should I flash it with the "italian job"?

      • just flash an overseas ROM. You'll also gain the benefit of getting future updates a lot sooner!

    • pretty sure it won't, at least not officially.
There's an unofficial one in the works though:
      http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020167&hig…

    • Officially? Never.

Isn't Honeycomb optimised for dual core processors?

I'm sure xda is working on one, but it won't be quite the same thing.

      • I doubt the Galaxy Tab will be able to handle Honeycomb since it can barely handle FroYo. I bought one during the $300 period and sold it off straight away.

        • The galaxy tab wasn't great on froyo, but is awesome on Gingerbread. You shouldn't have sold it off so quickly.

        • -1

Oh, fair enough. I got an iPad 2 after selling it and am loving it though :).

  • Some of the latest offerings are Galaxy 7.7 (premium), and Lenovo Ideapad A1 (budget). Was considering this A100, but screen resolution and quality may be a bit low. If this drops to $250, then that's a different story.

How good is the graphic card? Is it a 1gb Gforce? Play games like ps3 games? Also is the graphics on this tablet better than ipad2?

    these things are so bulky

    • +1

yeah, i find all 10" tablets bulky. They're perfect for when you're sitting somewhere with the intention to surf the net, but too bulky to carry everywhere you go. A 7" is perfect for that.
