Overseas Travel - Are You Booked & Are You Still Going?

Hello =)

We have seen a dozen or so threads about upcoming booked travel and what should I do in light of this virus that is going around the world? We all have read, seen, or heard the news - multiple times per day - and have an idea what the coronavirus is, and then we reflect on how it could impact those who are travelling (or not). We could debate and argue this 'until the cows come home' and still have no resolution in what is still a dynamic virus situation.

The direction of this thread (well I hope anyway) is to see, in factual data, of who are booked, when and where are you going and IF you are still going? [prefer not to debate pros/cons of this virus]

Hopefully, we can use this format

  1. When I am going?
  2. Where I am going?
  3. Am I still going?

I'll start off with my situation:-

4 to 18 March
Thailand (Koh Samui / Koh Phangan)
Yes + wife

8-21 April
Thailand (Bangkok), Cambodia (Phnom Penh) and Singapore
Yes + wife

14-19 May
Melbourne
Yes

11 July - 3 August
France (Paris) and TBD european cities.
Yes + wife, however my parents may cancel if situation gets worse.

3 to 18 August
Singapore and Japan
Yes + wife

  • Our trip to Thailand in June is still on hold.
But I think it's better for everyone not to travel yet until it's safe to do so.

    • June will not happen, maybe late july-August if there is not a secound wave.
      land borders may open sooner.

There also maybe additional entry requirements. Maybe insurance and masks will be required for awhile.

      • you are right, I would be cancelling our flights then before its too late.

  • My flights to Darwin with Virgin obviously cancelled for Easter. Have a credit to redeem by October as it was originally booked via ANZ travel rewards.

Patiently waiting for my full refund of my European flights that were cancelled, was meant to travel this month. Once China Southern pay Flight Centre then I should see it.

I have a lot of domestic flights I would like to book, alas who knows which borders will open and when.

  • So what is the situation with people like me who have bought tickets for later this year? Not cancelled as yet, but unlikely to happen. I have confirmed with my bank that I should be able to initiate a charge back if my travel insurance won't cover it (because this kind of thing is technically excluded). But at the moment, no formal confirmation that the flights won't be going ahead under new management for example.

  • When: End of Aug
    Where: South Africa
Still going: Unlikely. Need to cancel accom by 30 Jun to get refunded, flight is Qantas

Pretty sure we wont go - Sth Africa still looks like the curve is going up, even after 6 weeks of pretty strict lockdowns.
Either hold out for Qantas to cancel the flight (cash refund) or just pull the pin next month and get a flight credit.
