None left a week ago in my area.Only 2 pairs of white ones size 11.

Lots at Erina NSW- women's gold, black & white and men's black (smaller sizes in men's).

My first pair of Havianas lasted forever. Next couple of pairs lasted a few months.

Feel like they are now the Iphone of thongs… Overpriced and overvalued by consumers.

    • +7

They absolutely changed some years ago. I assumed they moved operations to a different country or something because their thongs are cheap rubbish now. Every pair I have had, the stem just snaps before the thongs have even fully worn in.

      • That's exactly what happened to mine. First time I've ever had that happen to any pair of thongs I've ever had. I got mine from Aldi if that make any difference. What are your go to thongs now?

        • +1

I got over it and shelled out for merrells when they were on sale. Not really thongs, and they cost as much as shoes.

I heard good things about Archies though.

          • @zarbicore: Hmm, yeah I don't know if I'll change to that sort of thing. I really should be wearing shoes all the time as I need to wear orthotics. I really only wear thongs if I think I'm not going to be walking much and I'm feeling lazy.

Just looked up Archies. They are a bit expensive. Maybe need to find a pair and see what they are like though. Otherwise I'll just get whatever is cheap but doesn't look like I got it from a $2 store next time I go to an outlet or something.

          • +1

@zarbicore: Have a pair of Archies. HEAPS more comfortable than regular thongs / havianas.
            No blow outs yet.
Would absolutely recommend over havianas, but obs not as cheap.

        • Reef thongs are really good. A bit expensive but they last for aaaaaages and are extremely comfortable. I got these https://www.shop-reef.com.au/collections/mens-sandals/produc… and paid $55 for them two years ago.

I'm pretty sure they have a "budget range" and a "premium range", with the budget ones wearing out really quickly. I've tried both in the last year and noticed a considerable difference. The only thing that stands out to me is that the premiums ones tend to have the "Havaianas" logo as a different colour on the strap and the cheap ones are monochromatic, but that might be a coincidence.

          • @[Deactivated]: Hmm, mine have the different colour logo on them. I don't wear thongs that much. They were comfortable, I'll give them that but I was surprised they broke so quickly.

            • @ozbs25: Yeah, I don't know mate, its just a theory. I bought a pair from Big W and they broke in about 2 months, while the ones I got from a surf shop lasted me about 1.5-2 years or so. Maybe it's just shitty QC or maybe I got lucky?

      • Totally agree, these have gone down hill , bought a pair of Gambols in Thailand, you can certainly see and feel the difference.

      • I would say that is by design. They wouldn't want their products to last for too long otherwise, people wouldn't be buying more. They just need to find the sweet spot of the product lifespan - not too long but not too short as well. 2years may be my minimum.

I think the same happened with Motorola back in late 90s or early 00s when their phones are too durable that people hold onto them forever (I heard this somewhere but too lazy to validate myself)

        • Well, Havaianas themselves seem to indicate that 6 months is the sweetspot

          luckily the ACL thinks differently

          • @Wally: That's a replacement guarantee though. Our TVs normally have a 2year warranty but can last 5-10 years with normal use. But yeah love the consumer protections here. Not sure though if its worth it making a claim 7months down the line for a $5 item!

              @sigplay:

              love the consumer protections

They're inadequate compared to other countries, such as EU, and accountability is barely enforced.

I find these to be different to my other havianas.
The big W thongs are Aussie size, the ones I got from a surf shop were european sizing (45-46) & were heaps better in quality. The rubber feels different

    • I wonder why not many footware brands make/ sell cheap thongs here. I remember seeing tens of Asian footware brands selling them in Asian countries (not referring to home brand pairs like that of Kmart of Big W).

  • Don't forget discount eGift cards through cashrewards etc.

  • *Havaianas

  • Are these not available to check online? Haven't been able to find on BIG W's site.

    • +1

I think it must be in store only

They're crap these days.Last ones I bought were from Aldi and didn't last.Havaianas in name only.

  • Grrr, I paid $10 from General Pants Co the other week and now I feel ripped off!

That $5 could’ve been handy for that LEGO Movie Blu-ray!

Just saw a couple left in store.
What the hell has happened to the quality of these? They are putrid! Lucky to be even worth $5!

Other clearance thongs in Big W for similar price are better value.

  • All gone at Melb CBD store

These suck - nothing like the originals. They will greet the bin much easier than you expect and if you can get a season out of them you've done well. Kmart wannabes are better. Save your $5 and get something better.

They're thongs, right? Wow, $19 for thongs!

  • lot of thongs on clearance at big w at the moment. i grabbed a couple pairs of mambos for $3 a pair last week
