It's a good price because you get cheap parts and non-existent support if something goes wrong. You get what you pay for. Spend ~$100 more to pickup a Hisense from major retailers instead.

Yeah I couldn't buy anything but a Hisense anymore. So impressed with the quality of the panels and the after sales support is good. Much better experience than the Samsung I owned previous to it that cost 2.5x more and had many many issues.

  • Has the quality of kogan TV's improved?
JB near me has a couple of Sony KD-55X8500E for 899. They will most likely do it cheaper, since they want them gone.
Trying to decide between that and this.

    • You really need help deciding?

The Sony is definitely much, much better, but it's also the 2017 model, so compare it to something like the HDR models from Hisense in that price range before deciding. Here's a technical review of the Sony:

      https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x850e

      • Thanks for your comment. Yes, that review and looking at people's reviews seems like there are some common issues with the TV (restarting, no sound, etc).
I'll have a look at the hisense's too. So the Kogan is pretty much a no-no then?

If you can afford a Hisense R7 or R8 100% go for those Tv's they are great!

I have a Hisense R8 65" as my tv and get many comments on the quality.

        • With a Kogan model, you need to look at it from a sub $500 level, and use it with a smart TV box.

At $750, this is not good value, and you're able to get much better features elsewhere to enhance your viewing experience.

Also keep in mind 120Hz panels with HDMI 2.1 input are becoming the norm, so a model like that may fall into your price range very soon. Keep your eyes out for upcoming reviews and release info.

This is a bog average price compared to other current/recent deals from Kogan. For those shopping around:

    • Don't get these models just because they have Android TV on them, as there are Android TV devices out there that go to market without Google certification, so I'm not even sure these even have sufficient DRM for things like FHD and 4k Netflix, and you can get something like a Vodafone TV, Foxtel Now box, or a Xiaomi Mi Box for $50-$80. Unless Vodafone have updated to Android 9 or 10, just get the Xiaomi unless you want to wait for an updated piece of hardware later this year.

    • Definitely do not get their non-'Android TV' smart TVs (ie. Android OS, versus a branded Android TV OS device) for their smart features, as the experience alone will be horrible, and again there will be insufficient DRM for high res content on some subscription services

    • Confirm the contrast ratio on these before buying as some of Kogan's models are IPS, which do not have great lifespans and performance when used as television panels, particularly for HDR (think worse than any claim about OLED lifespan). You can differentiate this through IPS having much lower contrast ratios 1000-1200:1, versus 3000-6000:1).

Don’t know why people here buy these shit brands, it’s a long term buy save up spend an extra $150 get Samsung 7100 or lg um7400 when on special

    • Hisense has better bang for the back than Samsung

With Samsung, you really need to get the 8000 series at minimum
