They have probably gone with this, because optical mice are generally better at accuracy of movement which is more important in gaming. Laser beats optical for compatibility with more surfaces.
The main thing I dont like about this mouse is that they moved the DPI button to the bottom. This mouse has laser activated switches which avoids the double click problem that micro switch mice often have.
Keep in mind you can get the wireless Razer Mamba from amazon for less than $80.00 with free prime shipping. This has been fairly long running.

Edit: checked last time a Razer deal was posted, Razer WILL honor warranties for items sold by Amazon US in Australia.
I can confirm this.
I bought from this and if you choose the wireless version you can see that it has the product code of the US version of Mamba Wireless.
I also confirmed with Razer chat support that warranty will still be acceptable in Australia.

G703 you cannot store the receiver inside the mouse. Mamba Wireless you can.
G703 allows Powerplay wireless charging mat solution. Mamba Wireless you can't.
(subjectively) I prefer the shape and the clicking of Mamba Wireless.
