Good deal. I think 16" is a great starter size and this is an awesome starter price. I'd DEFINITELY get this over one of the Chinese brands (Huion, XPPen etc).

I have a Cintiq Pro 22, but I'd happily grab this if I didn't yet own a Cintiq.

  • This has to be connected to a PC to work right? I'm sure I've asked this before and the answer was yes. Kind of defeats the purpose if you can't take it on the go and draw/sketch outdoors, etc.

Kind of defeats the purpose if you can't take it on the go and draw/sketch outdoors, etc.

But that's not the purpose. Plenty of people sketch at home or at work too. :)

That's like complaining about a boat only being useable when it's connected to water.

It doesn't defeat the purpose at all. No point paying for a battery, CPU, OS etc if you're only going to use it connected to a PC running 'serious' software.

iPads are much better on the go, and a lot more versatile too.

  • Yea I suppose you guys are right. So what is an option for something like this for on the go? iPad with pencil?

    • Depends on how picky you are with the pen and apps. You could pick up a used Surface Pro 4 or 5 for less than this, and it'll run full Windows.

  • Apparently wacom tracks application usage and sends it over the internet.

There is a privacy policy on their software, which you don't get when you use a general mouse or keyboard, but you do with wacom products. Sketchy as >D

    • You saying they can see all the dick'n'balls I've been drawing with mine?

Be careful with slightly sensational or misguided reporting like that. IMHO there's nothing unusual about it - if a user decides to join the optional Wacom Experience Program, the data anonymised data points that are collected is no different to what any other company collects if you decide to join their feedback program.

Some people will say "ah, but anonymised data can be linked to you if you link that info with other databases and do an analysis etc etc". But realistically, unless perhaps that person is working for Pixar or something, nobody cares about how many times someone opens Maya or Photoshop.

They do not track what you draw.

Easy solution - don't join customer feedback programs if you don't want to provide diagnostic info to companies. :)
