I Left My Woodworms for Too Long

So I've had a box of woodworm umbrellas sitting in storage for about 10yrs. My last woodworm from my previous pack died late last year so I opened up the 'new' one.

Finally decided to use one this morning and the plastic ends are now brittle and break easily :-(

Had 3 break on the way to the bus stop and that's a 500m walk only.

    Cool story, bro?

What would you like us to do with this information mate?

  • 3D print some new handles

    • Not the the handle. The rib ends.

I'm doing some research on how to attach new rib ends to the brolly's canopy.

  • So, buy a new one?

I've looked everywhere. Those Woodworm 3 packs are hard to find now under $50.

Looks like they should have used wood for the ends.

  • Ok, I’ll ask. Why did you even buy a box of umbrellas?

    And then not use them?

That last woodworm from the previous box lasted longer than I expected it to.

From that previous pack, I gave one to my bro, another was lost by a friend so this second pack was bought during a sale as a back up… Especially when the tip of the last umbrella from the previous pack was starting to rust away.

But it lasted me 10yrs overall and the second pack got forgotten about in my storage area until I moved homes last year.

  • Lol Mugsy for starting this thread

    • C'mon… woodworms are an ozbargain classic. I thought there'd be more stories from everyone else!

  • Merged from Umbrella Rib Tips

Looking for new umbrella rib tips to fix my woodworm umbrellas (opened up a pack bought 10yrs ago… and the rib tips are all brittle and broke on first use). I think there's 8 ribs per brolly so need 24 in total.

Most of the rib tips purchasable online seem to be from alibaba and all coming from China. With the coronavirus outbreak, I suspect mail delays even if those businesses are still working. Any where else people know of where I can get new rib tips.

Preferably wood ones… or even metal.

Why don't you just buy a new umbrella? If you haven't had a need for an umbrella in 10 years then just buy a cheap one and replace it when it breaks.

It's not like the woodworm umbrellas were really expensive - $25 for a pack of 3.

I've been using my previous woodworm for 10yrs. From the previous pack, I gave one away and a friend lost the other one. It's why I bought this second pack but the last brolly from the first pack lasted 10yrs so I am inclined to stick with a good quality brolly rather get a cheap one.

I got a cheap one when OW had some golf umbrellas for cheap last year. The ribs keep bending!

    • Did you not post this the other day?

  • Following the drought in stock of umbrella rib tips since covid hit, there's finally some that have come in stock on Aliexpress for a decent price. Metal too so hopefully will last and not rust either (knock on wood). Bought a few packs… we'll see how this goes. The woodworms are still in good condition apart from the rib tips being brittle and breaking.
