Been really happy with my 65" dumb tv from EKO that I picked up as damaged stock (scratches on top of bezel) for $300. Very acceptable image and somewhat acceptable sound

    • Where and how did you find it?

      • Just some company in Homebush NSW that must be the supplier/middle man between the manufacturer and Big W.. when they have stock that's no longer able to be sold they dump it off on gumtree I guess. They had a few available when I got mine, all with various issues (stuck pixels, carton water damaged stock etc)

Now I think about it, it's actually a "smart" TV. It just loads up fast like a dumb TV (must be from a sleep mode rather than off) and I've only ever used it with an external TV box because the software is trash. Still super super happy with it, great value

  • Does anyone have any experience using this or a similar cheap TV to use as a computer monitor? Seating will be approx. 70cm away from the monitor.

    • +7

I wouldn't recommend it. TVs tend to have enough input lag to make using them as PC monitors a bit wacky, and also theyre way too bright and not sharp enough to be sitting that close to. you'll get watery eyes pretty quick

i use one of these as my home monitor: https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/BDM4065UC_75/brilliance-led-b…

A lot of newer Tv's have good input response and even some older ones are good in that area. You can adjust the Tv to suit your brightness requirements but I would recommend using dark themes.
I have less eye issues from a 40" tv than a monitor 24/28" etc. and I sit between 60 to 70 cm's from the screen.

    • +1

      Absolutely not.
I have a 43 inch computer monitor and I sit about 70cm away from it.
a 50 inch TV would straight up be too big at that range.

I do recommend a LG 43 inch 4k monitor though. Great sound too.

    • Thanks for the input xyron, geebee, and juiciness.
I'll stay away from TV's as a monitor.

      • i use a 55" as a monitor, but i also compute from the couch

      • It entirely depends on the TV. I have a Sony X8000D 43" which is awesome. I'm not the only one either.

Rtings review the pc monitor specs for certain TV's too. Here is mine - https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800d

  • Will Bluetooth headphones connect to this TV and can apps be installed from Google Play? I couldn't see any drive size information.

    • +1

Don't know about Bluetooth headphones, but you can download apps & games from google play store even connect Bluetooth controller to play games

  • Ffalcon is $398 at JB and manufactured by TCL

    • Ffalcon is not an Android tv so no option to install VPN, Kodi, Kayo, Disney & Prime videos. Connect Bluetooth controller to this tv and can even play games. Compatible games can be downloaded from play store.

      • Do you know a good cheap 50 inch TV mostly for watching Kayo? (dont want another box with extra remote complicating things for elderly relative). Cheers

I bought the 65" EKO in January - Very, very happy with it. Word of warning though, Android for TV is not the same as full blown Android. There are some things you cannot get from the play store - most notably, browsers. You can't even get a version of Chrome for TV. Sure, there are ways and means, but if I didn't have a PC connected, I'd find it frustrating.

To whoever asked about Bluetooth headphones - Yes

Just to start an argument - an Android TV makes any other smart TV seem dumb :)

You can side load non android TV applications, but no guarantee they will work with the remote when more are made for touch screens

    • Word of warning though, Android for TV is not the same as full blown Android. There are some things you cannot get from the play store

This is even same with Nvidia Shield Box & VTV. Play store just shows Most compatible apps with your device, saves a lot of time in finding the compatible apps like i use to find for my Chinese Android box, but can still side load apps.

    • Can I ask where you bought the 65" from ? And how much did it cost ?
Are you still happy with it ? Am searching for a TV - used Sony in the past, now I dont think I want to spend over a grand for a TV. So many options out there. Would you be able to compare EKO to Hisense ?

I bought the 65" Eko in the Boxing Day sales….very happy with it, aside from possibly the remote control issues, which aren't that bad.

    Puts out a fantastic picture.

There is a Whirlpool thread on it here: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9wjnq2r3

    • Let us know if you are still having issues with your remote control

      • Hi EKO

Can you please look at the issue with using Google voice assistant via the remote?

Once you use it, the icons are reverted back to default with suggested movies/series. Then you have to manually remove them all one by one again.

        It's pretty annoying.

I have two of your TVs, both different models and have the same issue.

        Thanks

Ok we will pass this onto our Support Team ASAP.

        • Would it be possible at all to send a video clip to [email protected] attention Domenic please AtomuKirin?

Just double checking you have also the latest updates etc from Google?

          • @EKO Customer Service: sure - and yes, all updated for both TVs

it is also affecting other users, as per the whirlpool thread.

have you been able to replicate it?

basically - if you want to replicate it, just remove all the suggestions it shows for you for Netflix, Youtube, etc.. but going to the the left of each one and delete.
once it is all cleared - just press the Google Assistant Button, and ask something simple like "What's the weather in Adelaide" or "what's the time, etc" or play "Beyonce on Youtube"

once it finishes, all the recommendations for all channels appear again on the dashboard.

you have to remove each one again, and each time google assistant is used, they come back again.

  • Not a bad price for a smart android TV

  • What’s the sound quality like?

  • Listed on website and available at almost all the stores

  • So does this have actual HDR?
And is it possible to disable internet? Looking for a dumb tv but at the quality and price this is hard to go past.

  • Does anyone try Linsar or kogan and compare to this EKO?

Bought the 65" version of this last week and i have to say i'm proper impressed with it for the money. Paid $616 after using the 5% off woolie/bigw gift cards on the last catalogue deal.

The picture in Full HD and 4k is really very good. Very bright and vivid. Punching above its price point significantly.

I've got a 135" ALR projector screen in a dedicated cinema room , so this TV is a secondary TV for the lounge room for the young fella to watch youtube or me to watch soccer when the missus is using the cinema, and it is more than adequate. I mostly watch HD sports channels in IPTV , so the andorid TV inclusion is great. I already have android TV in the Cinema on a shield, and another room on a xiaomi mi box and it's head and shoulders above every other OS for home streaming, netflix etc.

Overall very pleased. Obviously the real test will be product longevity, which is often where cheaper TVs will fall down, but Australian consumer law is pretty solid on expected TV life, so i have that backup if something fails after 1 year.

    • I dont know what the feature is called, but does the screen reduce the glare (sunlight) if watching in a bright sun-lit room?

  • Very nice TV for this price! ATV da best!
