Samsonite Octolite Carry-on Luggage 55cm $99 + Delivery (Free with Kogan First) @ Kogan

610

Seems like a good price for a Samsonite Carry-On that is fairly light at 2kg. It is highway robbery at $240 at David Jones.

  • According to other websites…including samsonite.com.au…this little guy weighs in at 2.5kgs. One website even says 2.6kgs. Worth noting.

FYI, I believe you might be looking at the Samsonite Octolite (2.5kg) and not the Samsonite Octolite SS (2.0kg).

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Its not you that's wrong, its me! The Kogan description of the suitcase, down the page a little bit, clearly says its the Octolite SS model. Nice one! Thanks for the correction. :)

    • Thanks OP bought one.

  • I am not so sure. The Kogan specifications say it is 2.0kg. Like hyounden, I am happy to be corrected.

  • Just got it. Let see if it is 2.5 o 2.0 kg haha

Bit inexperienced but have started doing some work trips… given this guy is 55 x 40 x 20cm would that still fit within the requirements of Qantas's "56cm + 36cm + 23cm"?

    • +1

      Yes it's fine

    • I'm too lazy to look it up but I think the total dimensions are supposed to be within 115cm. So 55+40+20=115 and 56+36+23=115.

    • Qantas yes virgin no…I think

    • FWIW, be aware that for less travelled routes, Qantas will use local carriers, such as SunState that often have smaller overhead space.
I bought a Samsonite backpack that was to standard airline specs, only to find it was sometimes a squeeze to fit it in.
Never had any problem with Virgin, but they tend not to have flights to the more rural areas.

Thanks OP. Just price matched with OW (for the black, blue not in stock) for $94.05 (inc 5% beat) delivered.

    • In person or were you able to do it online?

      • In person at my local.

        • +1

Nothing in stock for me local, just bought the blue one instead. How do you rate the bag?

        • Do they have it instock or they are happy to order in for you to collect?

    • I called my branch and the staff said it's an online purchase item - there is no physical stock in store.

When I called online purchase for assistance, was told that they can only price beat "Like for Like" (even for colour) hence only Navy (not the Black) can be pricematched. And Navy colour out of stock at the moment..

      • What a true ozbargainer. Alll that effort to try to save 5 bucks.

Is this to smuggle toilet paper from shops to home?

This is the SS version (soft side)
So it should be lighter then the hard case version

  • Does anyone know if the 55cm length includes or excludes the wheels? Some airlines include the wheels in their dimensions.

    • Typically, Samsonite would give you the full length, so including wheels. I'm very careful with my luggage dimensions for checked-in luggage but bought this one in a heartbeat! It's also featured in the Qantas store as Cabin Approved. I feel terrible for people who have parted with 71,480 points for this!

  • Got 10 of these but can't really go anywhere. :)

    • Are they 2.0kg or 2.5kg?

      • -2

        Haha I was kidding. ;)

    • So that's 20kg then

  • No way are these worth it for $239 retail tho.

    • It seems to be the going price at many (discount) Samsonite shops though - you can have a full sized Octolite for less than $239 though. According to Pricehipster, Kogan's price for this one was $169 a year ago and has been on sale at $99 several times throughout the year.

  • pretty good bag.. I've been using it for the past two years or so pretty much every week.

  • What's the difference between highway and daylight robbery?

      Corona virus

  • If the RRP is indeed $399.00 as per LuggageDirect, $100 is a very good price! It's hard to find carry-ons at 2kg. 10-year warranty is nice as well (and unlike cabin baggage, it's a lot easier to claim under warranty for carry-on as Samsonite can't blame airport baggage staff). That extra zipped pocket at the top looks quite handy for passports etc. Cheapest I could find was $169 here but that looks like a different model again (with USB cable?).

    • Nah that’s not a USB cable that’s a locking cable that keeps the other zips from opening

      • Sorry, included the wrong link. I meant this one, definitely with integrated USB.

  • Those wheels look flimsy.

    • I have 2 other, larger Octolites and the wheels are actually really solid. They look identical to these.

Thanks OP just bought one for Mum.

99 for a cabin bag? Ozbargain is losing its way. Find a friend with a Costco membership, you can get similar quality or better for much less.

    • Please share what’s better value and quality if you think there is one ta

    • I'm a costco member and you can't find one this light for the price

  • Btw, you'll find plenty of stores will price match and you'll get local warranty.

Maybe my friend only offers it to me, but the last deal she said she'd match it. It's worth a shot with your local luggage store.

  • I dislike the people who have these oversized wheeled bags as carry on.

    • That’s why you should get one of these. They’re not oversized, they’re (Qantas) approved carry-on luggage and therefore smaller than what some people try to push in the overhead compartments.

  • +1

Great little carry on, thanks OP! Received mine today. Good build quality and love all the separate zipped pockets. Something most people on long haul flights will find super handy!

  • Order got cancelled. Anyone else had the same issue?
