Cheap business class fare from Paris to Sydney for $2100 return.
Fly Paris to Zurich then Singapore on Swiss Air then Singapore to Sydney on British Airways, reverse for return journey.
Example dates depart Paris 15th March return 22nd

      • but then you're stuck in Paris… you need a third leg to get home a second time.

  • CDG = Paris-Charles De Gaulle

So looks like Paris -> Syd/Bris RTN business is $2100
Pretty good, a mate is leaving London today (since the soccer is cancelled) & is paying $1700 OW for economy.

    • Sorry for him :)

  • +2

Oh it looks like it’s with Swissair Paris->Zurich->Singapore, then Singapore air to Oz.

    • +2

that means you get 3 amenity kits each way?

      • Love me a good amenity kit!

        • of course. It's the reason to fly Business. That and the loaner Bose headphones.

          • @lostn: I've only ever flown economy, but on China Southern to Europe and back, you get these great little kits with a handy sized zippered pouch that I love - got a whole bunch of them now.

    Great find mate!

upvoted, not going anywhere but great find, haven't even been to the cbd for the last 30 days…

business class to the epic centre?

Missed Italy and Iran no deal!!

      *epicenter

    • epic indeed

  • Odds of getting whole trip if you "miss" the departing flight? Pretty high right?

    • 100%

    • Just book it backwards?

  • Bargain, shame the AUD has dropped, this would "usually" be about $1,800.

Just make sure Expedia ticket the flights. They are less likely than some to go broke but you just never know!

Hmm just thought I'd point out that you won't be able to transit through Singapore airport any more after tomorrow if you've eben to France. So this won't work. I had flights through Changi cancelled by Singapore Airlines today. See here

I was waiting for someone else to say it.

OzBargainers don't/can't read the news. Reading all the travel threads saying everything will work as normal, it's actually quite funny how the cockiest, angriest people don't Google before they make statements.

    • I thought Switzerland also closed their borders? Or does this mean you can transit through, but not enter the country?

    • In addition, all travellers coming into Singapore who display symptoms at the checkpoint will be required to serve the 14-day SHN, even if they test negative for Covid-19.

Do you know if the SG govt pays for your 14 day SHN? Let's say you were only meant to stay 3 nights and then leave but now must stay 14 days and your hotel is only booked for 3 nights, what happens? SG pays for the remaining 11 nights somewhere else?

      • Doubtful

      • Probably in a room packed full of other flu ridden peops.

Business class to Paris - $2100
      Covid-19 - free
14 days of self isolation and possible death - $priceless.

      • apparently there is better ventilation at the front

      • -2

        possible death**

** Only if you're over 70 or have lung issues.

        • +3

** Only if you're over 70 or have lung issues.

Only if you believe what you read in the papers. Btw there'd a well documented case of the doctor in Wuhan dying from it. He was no where near 70 or 60.

          • +1

@salmon123: you would think a doctor of all people would know best how to protect himself from it.

            • +1

@lostn: They might have been referring to Dr Li Wenliang, who got into trouble for trying to warn medico’s about the possible SARS like virus.

            • @lostn: I read an article somewhere that some chinese doctors got this horribly wrong at the start offering immunosuppressive medication (thinking it was allergy symptoms), and this is common practice due to pollution etc. Hence an inflated mortality rate in China.

          • @salmon123: I don’t read the papers, but I do believe what the CDC (both US & China), KCDC, WHO report.

From China, those over 80 have around 15% fatality rate, those under 60 had ~0.5%,

In Korea, it was much less. Out of the ~6300 cases, 24 deaths under the age of 70!
            https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavir…

            In Australia, as of today, 197 had covid-19, 3 have died. Yep 3. 78yo, 95yo, 82yo

            https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavir…

Yet ~100/mth die on our roads. Do you tell people to give up driving? Nope. About 3200 people die from Flu/Pneumonia each year in Oz, do you tell people not to come to oz in case they might catch the flu & die? Nope.

Human’s are terrible at judging risk.

@[Deactivated]: The most astute observations on the topic that I've come across so far. Thank you.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Except that everyone who actually knows what they talk about disagrees with this poor judgement of yours.
If you get 10 Mio Aussies infected that 0.5% comes up to 50.000 dead but the issue is worse when these infections happen at once because we then won't have the healthcare support needed. This will modify the mortality rate and substantially increase it

              • @Unterberg: It's not my judgement, but who do you know that s more knowledgeable then both CDC's, WHO, KCDC?

Also the rate are of know sufferers. Lots of people who probably have it, weren't tested because they had no or mild symptoms.

            • @[Deactivated]: And then don't forget Italy where the death rate was hovering about 6% across all infections

              • +1

@buckster: Please don't forget Germany, who have only reported 9 deaths so far out of over 4500 infected.

                • @dm01: and yet Angela Merkel predicts that 70% of the population will contract it!

              • @buckster: I haven't

                https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus_disease_2019#Progn…

or if you want to read the Italian version
                https://www.ilpost.it/2020/03/11/rapporto-istituto-superiore…

Italy as of March 9 death rate by age group
                80+ 13.2%
                70-79 6.4%
                60-69 2.5%
                50-59 0.2%
                40-49 0.1%
                Under 40 0.0% !!!!

sure 60-70yr have a bit of a problem. but look at those numbers under 60.

                • @[Deactivated]: Actual infection rates are underreported (not intentionally) due to insufficient testing. More people are infected than the official numbers.

But the good news about that is that it makes the death rate actually overreported across the board. With the actual number of infected being an estimated 10-20x higher than official numbers in heavily infected regions, the death rate is actually much lower than what people are calculating. Experts are estimating 1-2% average mortality rate or less.
