Switching to a new mobile provider, need help?

Hi Everyone

I'm currently with Vodafone for the last 2 years but Im starting to get annoyed at the coverage they have, would get my calls randomly dropped out and sometimes the internet doesn't even work on my phone till I get decent reception. The phone tower is like 1km from me and I only get full reception in my room, Kitchen or the other end of the house and its pretty much nothing =_=

Looking for a service provider that compares or might be better then what I am using now. Currently on the "$45 Infinite" post paid with 1GB of data and also bundled with $15 overseas talk package that includes 200 minutes to mobile or home "mainly use for mobile calls".

Would be great if someone can find something similar or better, not locked on a contract at the moment since Im on a sim only plan. Dont wish to be locked in a contract BUT if something better does come up I'll take it. Using HTC Desire and Im pretty happy with that phone.

Thanks for reading

  • You could always try out Telstra if you are sick of the crappy vodafail coverage and reception. At least you are guaranteed better quality of service than all of the other providers out there because they have invested the most in infrastructure. They have some BYO plans that go for 12 months for 49+ but not sure how good value it is for what you want. They also have prepaid if you want to try them out for a month before committing to anything, as do other providers.

  • Live Connected (Optus reseller) have good value cap plans (month to month contract). But do note there have been a multitude of issues experienced by some customers including poor customer service, billing issues, excess usage charged to the user's credit card when in fact they stayed within their cap, and the usage record meter portal being far behind in updating usage records or in fact being down altogether.

The worst outcome is that Live Connected may cancel your mobile service at any time simply by sending you an automated system generated email message giving you 30 days notice and recommending that you port your number out well before that date to avoid the risk of you losing your mobile number.

That is exactly what happened to me during the last month and Live Connected gave me absolutely no reason or justification for the sudden termination of my mobile service.

I always payed my bills on time and never contravened any of their terms of service.

  • I haven't used but amaysim seem to have what you want http://www.amaysim.com.au/mobile-plans/amaysim-unlimited.htm… but not sure if you can add on an international bundle. If you don't really need unlimited then TPG have a good deal (especially if you are a TPG ADSL customer) and they include international in their cap http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html

  • I use Telstra and don't trust any others in terms of coverage, however, I would think that Optus is a step up from Vodafone and if you go with Virgin (owned by optus), they have some pretty good plans and I think you can get your first 2 months for free on a 24 month contract. Telstra is great for coverage but it's definitely more expensive.

  • ive been with live connected for about 6 months now and have had the best experience with them than with any other provider in australia (and ive been with a lot of them, past and present). i and thousands of others have not had the issues he has had, and if you look at his situation from live connected's side, it makes sense why his service was cancelled. it should be added that every single provider in australia contains exit clauses such as the one that caught him/her; if the provider doesn't want you, they can cut you off at any time.

camelgrass is just chewing on some sour grapes.

    • I don't think I understand why camelgrass's service was cancelled.

Why would you say he is just chewing on sour grapes. The way I see it is that he is stating his experience.

Which is no different to anyone saying Vodafone service is not good calls drop. That is their experience.

  • If you can pay, go for Telstra. They have the best coverage!
