PU/faux leather should be in title

    • Indeed. There's never been a plastic that actually has even half a proper go at being like leather. Quite how the term "PU leather" is allowed I'll never know.

  • Chair looks pretty comfy, looks aesthetically horrible though.

It seems exactly like Artiss Executive Wooden Office Chair. Availble from many retailers for same price.

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/artiss-executive-wooden-off…

Also, name is confusing as it is PU leather.

    • However this deal is $1.95 cheaper :)

    • Won't deliver to my postal code??? strange. 2486

  • Where's the bargain?

PU leather, will fall apart in a year or two

I have a PU chair from OW. My 90kg ass has been in it 8-10 hours a day for almost 4 years and not a flake from the PU. The foam has held up really well too - in fact after a dusting it looks like new. It cost a bit more than this one though at $299, but at this point it looks like it has years left.

Edit: Just checked, they still sell it: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/washington…
It now has an 8-year warranty, I'm sure it was only 4 when I bought mine.

  • Anyone tried this? Or any other home office chair recommendations?

    • +1

I feel like most people swear by the Ikea Markus, I like mine.

    • See my comment above

  • I’ll give you $6.

    • Now I’ll give you $5.

If you're gonna drop money on a chair and don't want to guy full bore on a Herman Miller or their ilk I would ignore all the cheapos and get the grey Markus at Ikea for $229. Since I bought one 2ish years ago the grey one is always $100 cheaper than the black one. Buggered if I know why.

But it's been great. Seat is firm but soft, hasn't warped significantly over time. Mesh backrest also hasn't warped over time - a serious problem I've had with cheaper mesh backed chairs in the past due to my back problem which means I put more constant pressure on it that most. Plus it's mesh so you can use it in summer and get a desk/standing fan and still effectively cool yourself.

I'm approaching 40. I'm a cheap bastard. I've tried so many cheap chairs. I have weird extra requirements because of my boned spine. I have gone through many office/computer chairs ranging from $50-$250 in the past 20 years. I can't imagine a better chair than the Ikea Markus.

That's because the black one has a leather seat base.

      • That explains that.

Although I'll say: cloth is better. You heard me.

    • +1

I was close to buying the Markus until I realised the fixed armrests won't fit under my desk

      • Good point. The high mark of the armrests is ~625mm when the chair is at it's lowest point. About 700mm when the chair is the height I use it, and I'm shortish (5'8").

That said the arm rests are optional.

    • I’d recommend trying one out in person as I found the Markus to be supremely uncomfortable.

"Leather" that is actually cheap vinyl

  • +1

I bought this chair a few months back but the gas lift had a slow leak so I contacted the company and they told me to send a video of the fault.

After I sent the video (taken with my phone) the refunded my money in full and told me to keep the chair.

So even though it seems cheap for a leather chair there must be a pretty big markup for them not to worry about returns.

    • +2

      It ain't leather.
Not so much the mark-up but getting it shipped back, processing it, refunding it, disposing of it and an element of goodwill all add up to it not being worth doing returns.

  • Executive class people will never use a chair with PU leather.
