What's the difference between the HP Z230 and the 9020?
They are both SFF desktop PCs but the Z230 is a bit bigger and uses more standard PC hardware. Unlike the 9020 it has sufficient room for a low profile dual slot 1050ti in the 16x slot with good airflow. It also runs a fair bit quieter. It looks a bit worse.

What's the difference between the T1700 and the 9020?
Almost nothing. Slightly different styling. Supports more CPU models (mainly certain Xeons).

What's the difference between the 3020 and the 9020?
x1 PCIE slot instead of x4 (means you can't use 1050ti). 2x front USB ports instead of 4x. 2x memory slots instead of 4x. Only 2 USB3 ports. No PS2 ports.

What's the difference between the 3010 and the 9010?
x1 PCIE slot instead of x4 PCIE, can still use 1050ti because x16 slot is in the right slot. 2x front USB ports instead of 4x. 2x memory slots instead of 4x. No USB3 ports. No PS2 ports. 1x HDMI Port instead of 2x Display Port.

  • Can I use this https://clearanceguys.com.au/product/cisco-ap-802-11n-1100-s…

To connect the pc to my Wi-Fi?

Not easily. That item is a Cisco Access Point that requires POE (Power Over Ethernet). There's plenty of very cheap USB wifi dongles available on eBay or even in stores like MSY though.

      • jeez $10 for a cisco AP

you can buy a cheap poe injector and you need a ccna to configure it and in the end you have a dual band n300 ap

        good work

        • They actually have a web intetface. I get it 802.11n is ancient but they have good range and are super reliable.

I'm giving this an upvote cos the OP has taken the time to pre-empt our questions and explain the differnce between all the systems.
    Nice post.

Fortunate timing for those of us who are forced to work from home and need an additional PC to escape the spouse.

  • Hey,
Do you know if this machine will take a graphics card? And if so, what do you recommend?

So I just physically opened up one of the 3020s and I was a bit shocked to find that it has 1 x16 slot nad 1 x1 slot. This doesn't seem to be documented anywhere online (the 9020 has 1 x16 slot and 1 x4 slot).

This unfortunately means that a 1050ti low profile dual slot card will not fit in the 3020. I realise that I didn't outline this in this post so if anyone bought the 3020 planning to use a 1050ti in it please contact us and we'll make it right.

So to confirm on the 3020 you can really only use single slot low profile GPUs. If you want to game that does severely limit your options (I can't actually think of any short single slot low profile short cards that fit the bill) but if you just want 4k HEVC decoding for example you can get a GT1030 low profile single slot card very easily.

If only dell put the x16 slot on the other side on the 3020/9020 SFFs.

3010 is still fine (can use 1050ti) because the x16 slot is in the right place but the i3 CPU would be a bit lacking unless you replaced it with an i5 3470 or something.

  • I have a standard GTX1050, will that fit into any of these?

    • Unfortunately not. These are all SFF enclosures that require low profile cards.

  • Put an SSD in there and they make great Work from home PCs :D

  • I want to confirm - 3020 and the 9020?
    What Ram does it suppport?
DDR 3 ? and what is the max in Mhz
